I'm playing with TTs at the mo and it would be interesting to have yet another to compare. My old Origin Live kit is in its third version. Looks like a dead standard deck but the motor is separate and stands in a cutout. Pic of early stages attached!! Avoids the usual problems with any noise transmission direct through the plinth. Just waiting on some socketry to try it.

Again I have to ask guys. Are you saying the "warble effect" is present when using heavy platters such as a Vantage upgraded or MN bonded platter? If so, when did that become noticeable? As I'm considering all things, I have revisited this thread: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showt...t-Marco-Towers wherein I (so far) have not found any reference to such an issue.
I'm confused here, are you guys saying it was purely sonic preference, or that there is an actual issue?
Also, if there are current users of either of these platters, I would love to know if you are experiencing the "warble effect" or not.

The 'warble' effect appears with platters (certainly the ones I've tried) or platter/mat combinations, where the angular momentum is significantly higher than the Technics standard platter and mat combination.
It is much more audible at 45rpm - try sustained piano. It is present at 33rpm, but more subtle.
:scratch:Now we see I'm the accountant not the engineer. I thought that the higher the rotational speed, the smaller the corrections required by the servo's and the LESS they were influenced by high inertia problems. Clearly I've had a Shrodigers cat moment. What have I got wrong? :scratch:
I can see that there is a move to relate this thread to the performance (properties) of DC motors in general but, in my opinion, this is not particularly valid. Many turntables that use a DC motor do not use a feedback loop and those that do do not necessarily apply it in the manner the Technics does.
Interested. What TTs (Radikal apart) are you aware of that don't use a servo? Without a servo, they will all drift - albeit softly and smoothly.
(For those not in the loop, Radikal re-claibrates the speed of the platter at each turn-on and relies on a slow decay for constancy over an LP)
