Had a bottle of this fantastic Argentinian red last night with some steak. In my opinion, Argentina produces the finest wines of the 'New World' countries, using its excellent quality of soil and warm climate to make some of the best red wine you can drink, and this one is no exception!
It's a pure Cabernet Sauvingnon, so very densely-coloured, almost purple, in the glass - and a real big, jammy rich mouthful, packed full of fruit, silky smooth, and not overly oaked. Unlike some Australian varieties are. In fact, in comparison, this wine has much more structure and finesse.
It comes in at £9.99, but such is the quality on offer here that you could easily pay £20 or more for similar, in a specialist wine merchant. It's a great glug, superb with barbecues, and comes highly recommended. So get along to your nearest Aldi, whilst stocks last! :cheers:

I've been buying a few slurps from Virgin Wines recently, whose service I have to say is almost second to none, and the quality of their selections really are top notch [trust me, I'm very fussy!]
Anyway, I discovered this *truly superb* red wine, from Chile, which is the perfect accompaniment to all red meats, particularly barbecued steaks, and also mature cheeses. Honestly, read the description and reviews on the link below - you'll simply NOT find a richer or smoother tasting, silky-smooth mouthful of fruity alcoholic succulence!! :eyebrows:
Highly recommended, to the point that if you're a 'big red' wine lover, like me, you'd be CRAZY to deprive yourself of this.....

Waitrose have a Romanian Pinot Noir for £5.99 - it's absolutely delicious & superb value at this price.
Lovely soft texture. Better than many entry-level New Zealand pinots ... I will be buying more for sure!

What a lovely drop this is. So smooth and rich, no hint of harshness, or that smoky/peaty quality I'm not a big fan of. Sherry casks rule!

LOL I did the same, save it was a single bottle of a 2007 Château Capbern Gasqueton, Saint-Estèphe. This was the last of a case I bought back in 2009, which I thought I had drunk up. Goodness knows how it got away - but not anymore; though it did need drinking up.Quote:

Maybe Grant, or one of the other guys up in Scotland will know better (as I'm a bit out of touch these days), but I don't think you'll find any distilleries in the middle of Glasgow or Edinburgh, such is the nature of their operation, but I could be wrong.
The Glengoyne one is only just outside (north) of Glasgow. You could probably get a train there from the city centre, or even a taxi for not that much, if you're sharing the costs. It would be worth it, as Glengoyne is expertly set up for tours, and so I'm sure you'd all really enjoy yourselves!:cool:

Glengoyne...(technically the distillery is in highlands, but not by much) http://www.glengoyne.com/ is by far the best of the lowland ones, but there are 2 others that do tours. down Clydebank way there is the Auchentoshan Distillery.. https://www.auchentoshan.com/
and in east outside Edinburgh is the Glenkinchie Distillery.. https://www.malts.com/en-gb/distilleries/glenkinchie/.
there is also the Scotch Whisky Experience; a Visitor Attraction... https://www.scotchwhiskyexperience.co.uk/ in Edinburgh.
I would strongly advise a distillery tour if possible, as its both interesting nd enjoyable... Glengoyne being the best and the chocolates are as sensational as the whisky..
Good one! Thanks guys. Looks like Glengoyne is the one to go to. Per their website, there's a bus from Glasgow that stops at the front gate - perfect! The Highland Way is near there too, so perhaps a hike and distillery visit to follow would be just the thing. Rabbies tours look good, also....a few options for them.
I've passed this on to the ladies and they will doubtless do something fun.

You lot have got me thinking about the evenings drawing in and how nice it is to just enjoy the simple pleasures of a nice warming tipple while listening.
I’ve always been partial to a drop of Whisky but I’m not a serious taster. Of those I have tried, I would have to say my tastes veer away from the smoky and peaty and more towards the Sherry Cask.
To that end, on the basis of recent discussions on here, I recently tried the Glengoyne 18 and was sufficiently taken by it to warrant further in-depth investigation [emoji4]
