just got a copy the other day so time to watch it. Not everyone's cup of tea but I have fond memories of watching this when it came out and on the old video tape I once had. This is a very good musical, and one of the last true Hollywood style extravaganzas. Of course it was a big flop, and cost way more than it should have, but its enjoyable all the same, not least for Marvin's no 1 hit Wanderin' Star and the fine singing voice of Eastwood in the likes of Elisa. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band do Hand me down that can o' beans as well, and all have roles in the film.

The Way Ahead directed by Carol Reed and stars David Niven and Stanley Holloway.Made in 1944 and had originally be made as an army training film the year before, that got shelved due to the image it portrayed at the time. Niven was brought in as was Reed and a film was born... Originally released on D-Day. Written by Peter Ustinov, who has a small role as a cafe owner. Top quality stuff.

PAUL (2011) Starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost & Seth Rogen as the Alien. Best small performance goes to Jeffrey Tambor for his portrayal of author Adam Shadowchild. He's a scream.
Not everyone's cup of tea this but I find it remarkably good and am happy to ignore its bad points as the good one well outweigh them.

finish the night with the 1952 classic ww2 naval drama, "The Cruel Sea" Jack Hawkins, Denholm Elliot, Donald Sindon and Stanley Baker in the main roles and Virginia McKenna is the love interest. Superior film this, directed by Charles Frend from a story by Nicholas Monsarrat... an excellent book I have on my Kindle
