I needed something better than the Michell clamp I've been using. The Tenuto platter matter renders the clamp unusable in virtual all but the thinest of vinyl pressings so I wanted something to help with warped disc and to try and improve the dB levels of rumble throught the spindle and bearing. This was quite pricey but I just fell in love with it's looks. First listening sessions are proving positive and I think I'm beginning to eek out more detail from my vinyl. I'm happy and have edged the performance of the 301 a little higher. ;)

Thanks Brian. The quest to get more out of the 301 continues. Decoupling the motor is the next job (and has been for over a year :doh:). I'm doing up a lenco so the 301 is actually being used to play vinyl. ;)

A little more fun with the 301. The fantastic little Shure M55E with JICO elliptical stylus £64 of supreme value for money. The 301 is my main tool for transcribing Jazz and I kid you not this little shure is made for listening to Jazz. It's very detailed, laid back (but not stupidly so), alas the Shure will probably be the main cart on my Lenco. I have something rather special planned for the 301 in the shape of a fully restored and pimped DECCA maroon. Currently the Ortofon Silver Meister is my cart of choice for Jazz and other genre's on the 301. Stay tuned for a mini bake-off review probably in the next 4 weeks or so. :eyebrows:

Could this be the next reference cart on the 301? The DECCA Maroon. I've not heard it yet as it's now boxed up waiting to go to John Wright. I'm REALLY looking forward to hearing this one.
The DECCA Maroon is back and now spinning vinyl on the 301. Setup was very easy and with none of the horror stories associated with DECCA carts. The DECCA is plugged straight into the Croft EPOCH MM stage and is making some very nice sounds. I'm extremely impressed by how close this is getting to the Paradise phonostage. Vocals are as equally impressive as my usual Silver Meister SPU + Paradise phonostage combination. My initial thoughts are that I'm hearing greater detail and piano just seems to have no note wobble, decay is lovely. Surface noise is extremely low. Low level listening appears to be extremely detailed. Drums seem to excel, cymbals seem to shimmer and the "snap" of bongo drums is something else. This cart is somewhat of a revelation.
My 301 is a truly global deck. It's got bit's from all over the world!
