'Safe as Milk' is a good, if challenging debut. Some think that Beefheart parodied the Blues (Howling Wolf in particular) but I believe he was honouring the Blues as the bedrock of rock and roll.
If you want an easier listen, then try 'Clear Spot'. :)

A few years ago I saw some OGWT archive footage of him doing 'Upon the My O My' and really liked it, but was told by someone that the album it came from (Unconditionally Guaranteed) wasn't great, so I didn't bother and got Safe as Milk instead.Quote:
