im not sending the whole turntable geoff,its just the sub chassis and inner platter as the guy does an exchange,although im in 2 minds now as i got an email from george merrill saying the play is normal! go figure???

That could be right. I don't know what kind of tolerance AR bearings were specified at or if they used high viscosity lube. Did you try neat STP? That would certainly help take up slack and do no harm as long as there are no speed issues.Quote:

If you say that they'll probably tell you to clear off. just go in and ask to look at it. Then wobble the platter to see if there's slack. By the way, your AR should only display slack whilst the bearing is dry (cleaned out). If it's slack when lubricated, you either have too low a viscosity oil or the bearing is knackered.Quote:
