13% ABV £15 a bottle

Though less of a primadonna than thinner skinned varieties, nonetheless the Bordeaux star grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, makes some demands of its own. To perform well in a maritime climate like Bordeaux, it needs well-draining gravel soils to help it ripen fully. Unfortunately, wines meriting only the broad Haut-Médoc appellation can be rather simple, due to haphazard pockets of gravel in predominately heavier clay soils.
Clay lacks the heat transferring properties of gravel, so grown in it, Cabernet Sauvignon may have difficulty developing maturity and complexity in finished wines from the region.

Slightly off OP, but Friday last was 'Martini Night'. Junipero Gin, produced by The Anchor Distilling Co. of San Francisco [@ 49.3%], and vermouth by Noilly Prat [@18%], then, once the posh stuff was done, Tanqueray Export Strength [43.1%]. Spent Saturday in bed with a katzenjammer.

That American import was a little too strong for me, though I understand they do a 98% version of the Junipero: Angels and Ministers of Grace defend us!

Spiced rum- never ever tried it knowingly until buying a bottle of Capt Cooks rum from Lidl by mistake ,when in a hurry !!(thought if was plain dark rum doh !!)

Used to get Bacardi spice. it was great but got taken off market for some reason.... must go and groom my coat now .. howl... :lol:

Mix with coke, or better still, proper ginger beer and squeeze in a wedge of lime, known as a Dark & Stormy - my favourite thing to do with spiced rum. :)

Finally got a shelf cleared to put the booze collection on( for now). Still looking for a cabinet.

As I don't drink much now I might as well see it out. Always collected whiskies and brandies for some reason. It's not all there but most of it

Think shelf will handle it as it used to have a lot of heavy pans etc on it. More bottles than you think there. The boxes are deliberately covering non boxed bourbon as I don't want the light getting at it too much

Its a relatively dull spot and there was a shelf going spare. The moth is over where the light is as its under staircase technically although in kitchen, its pretty dark and the slope doent allow for a light. This thing is led but when plugged in is quie bright. Dont use the cleaner uch now, and it may be sold soon if I sell up my vinyl front end. No decision has been made on it tho.

im not a big drinker,3 pints and im anybody's. the pain killer thread has made me think id like to try a glass or 2 of something nice to unwind after a hard day at work.
i cant drink red wine it tastes awful to me,its not price dependent either.
whiskey i can drink with ginger ale.
what would you guys recommend for me to try?

no point in buying good whisky like a malt if your gonna blaspheme into it with ginger ale :D . any whisky within reason will do for that. Maybe a nice vodka like ciroc its drinkable straight or with a mixerand wont give you a sore head.

I drink beer and wine but recently anything with any amount of fizz in it affects my digestive system adversely. Does anyone know if it is possible to get flat (still?) bottled beer in the shops - I rarely visit pubs these days. At the moment I'm restricting myself to wine but would like a bit of variety in my boozing. Cheers.

maybe something like belhaven best, or guinness. John smith best too.. I had to drink these for some time as I couldnt take gas either

Belhaven are doing a grapefruit IPA at M&S, lovely. They chop and throw in whole grapefruits to the brew.

Hi, no, but what you can do is control this with the right pour. Angle it so you get fizzing and a head (more than how a pub pours), so it won’t end up doing the same in your belly. Interestingly some Czechs pour their beer with no tilt, waiting for the huge head to subside before pouring again.

'Plonk' it is not, trust me. Absolutely beautiful, served chilled as an aperitif... I've paid ten times that amount for French stuff that hasn't been anywhere near as good!! Pity you can't get it here in Lidl.

Batch 59 is 60.9% and still has the old kick of course but it has lost something in complexity.
You don't quite get that array of chocolate, raisins, caramel and orange notes that earlier batches had.
The alcoholic burn is more overwhelming now. Hope they get it back on track in the future.

glenmorangie lasanta, the balvenie single barrel 15, tamdhu batch strength and Tullybardine 228 although this is a burgandy cask, its lovely. Those are the ones Ive tried that I liked.

Looks like the Lasanta could be a nice Xmas gift to myself ... :cool:

Bought a bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan about three weeks ago and have just got around to opening it. Absolutely stunning. Well worth the expense.

Looks nice, Shaun! Could you describe the flavour? I might be interested in getting a bottle myself. I like something nice and smooth (such as most sherry cask whiskies), and not too peaty or smoky :)

Yes, exactly. I'm more of a Balvenie kind of guy. I bought a bottle of Lagavullin, which is nice, but a little too smoky for my tastes. I like a nice rich, smooth whisky, with a touch of sherry-like sweetness, which slips down nicely - and those ones are usually a deep amber colour :)
