I don't think any band has ever polarised as much between absolute genius and unbridled crap.

I can't be doing with albums that have unbearable songs on them, unless it's the last song and you can just switch it off before it starts and call that the end.

Like Alan Partridge, my favourite Beatles album is 'The Best Of The Beatles.'

Yes it's a bit annoying really, that side 1 of Abbey Road is bookended by 'Come Together' and 'I Want You (She's so Heavy)', two of my favourites.

Strange really, a couple of years ago I might have frowned on 'best ofs', then I found that not only do I have a couple of dozen, but also play them quite often :doh: The one thing about them though that I do dislike, is that so often the tracks are shortened 'radio edits'. No need! :steam: Bowie is one of the worst offenders in this.

Still on the subject of 'best ofs' and radio edits, is a rather depressing realisation that has just hit me: as I get older, an album's duration represents an ever-increasing proportion of the time I have left on this mortal coil, so maybe I should stop whining and embrace the brevity :)

There was certainly a lot of 'filler' tracks on the early Beatles' album, but IMO from 'Beatles for Sale' through to 'Revolver' there are no duff tracks.

Again IMO, their best album 'St Pepper' has a couple of 'iffy' tracks, but they don't detract from what is a genius album.

The worse album for rubbish tracks has to be their double white album; but then being a double album there is ample opportunity for duff tracks.

Might just play Sgt Pepper tomorrow, it's been a few years.
