Amps - valve or SS?

OTLs are the exception to the rule RE valve amps as in theory they ought to be more economical to produce (wrt the comments on cost of output transformers for valve amps V's SS). However, the few I've listened to have really floated my boat but that's a personal thing and very system dependant. Wasn't it Croft who perfected the OTL circuit? Still see some of Glenn's early OTLs knocking about on the used market.

The Croft Series 3 OTL was a great amp. Back in the 80s we sold bucket loads with all manner of speakers - all except Apogee. Clean, clear and precise, the OTL was very popular with our customers.

I have been trying to persuade Glenn to manufacture it again but, for some reason, he isn't keen on the idea..:scratch:

For what its worth, I have done valves for years and I have done transistors. I have also done Croft hybrids but everytime I go all valve I eventually end up back with transistors. I guess I need to listen to myself more and save a small fortune.

I've done both too and always end up with valves:)

Use your own ears, listen at length and enjoy the music.
