Ahh. I figured so. An excellent idea I might add :)
The idea is that you can use the fixed output if you just need the DAC function, or use the variable output if you want to use the DAC as a digital preamp. The last option is a lot more exciting in terms of musical enjoyment. It is so detailed, you can tell differences between several similar instruments in multi layered tracks. Imagine being able to count the number of violins in an orchestra. But then again, the ADC's sumptuous 3D soundstage would give it away as well anyhow.
I have been a bit under the weather and overworked since last week, but hopefully I am well enough very soon. Then I can pass by John's place and let him confirm my findings.
