Spinning Today (Classical version)

Arthur Rubinstein may have had the sexual morality of an alley cat on heat, but he was certainly a fine pianist.

Maybe it's nostalgia, as this double LP album was one of my very first LP purchases over 40 years ago, but I haven't heard the Brahms concertos played as well as this before or since.

Happily, both performances are available in good sound on Spotify. :)
But I'd give a fair wodge of cash to have the LP version again! - it got purged years ago on the first of several occasions when I "gave up on vinyl". :doh:

I thought I'd sample this, but stayed to listen to all 4 concertos on the trot. Very fine.

My search for a perfect Mendelssohn Scottish symphony (#3) has turned up an unexpected gem.

Very light on its feet and superbly articulated.
Very transparent, detailed and dynamic recording, too.
Only had 1 listen so far ... all good, but the finale is nothing less than superb. Another listen or 2 today, I suspect.

... but the 8th wasn't so good. :(
The brass was recorded a bit reticently, so losing a lot of the music's marvellous bite.

Gustav (The Planets) Holst's daughter and a fine composer in her own right. Well worth a few listens - it continues to grow on me.

This is very beautiful in places, incisive in others - good allround as well. Colour me impressed. :)
