A searing performance of the 7th on CD ... played for the first time in a while as a forum friend had asked me to loan it out to them.
Wow. Just gobsmacked by the awesomeness of the slow mvt as well as the sheer terror of the 1st mvt climax.

Then relax a little ...

Both the above Bachs are lovely, but I have a particular soft spot for Munclinger and Ars Rediviva.

I need to explore the Shostakovich symphonies in more detail - I have liked what I've heard in the past.
For this morning though:

I'm torn between this one, Karajan/Vienna and Dutoit. Never really got away with the Rattle/Berlin version. Keep coming back to this one.

Messiah.

The remastered bluray version sounds very good, though they haven't managed to get rid of the hum that was on the 2nd of the 3 discs on the original CD release.
Great stuff !

^ Hogwood Messiah. My fave .... along with Sargent / Huddersfield Choral Society at the opposite end of the musical universe!
Hum on Hogwood Disc 2? .... can't hear it on headphones. Will try later on the big speaks once the missus is up. I can't recall noticing it before.

Telemann, he often gets an outing here, but today it's:

followed by something a bit different, that my wife wanted for Christmas:

My first Schostakovich purchase many years ago out for a fresh airing:

I love Jordi Savall's stuff.

Another piece that is slowly growing on me as the years go by and it gets an occasional outing ...

CD
I can't find it on Spotify or Tidal. :(
Wonderful opening, I now begin to appreciate. The whole 3rd mvt is a thing of wonder, almost Tchaikovskian. And good bits scattered throughout elsewhere. I feel sure it will continue to grow on me.
And Sib1 from this set

I sampled Vanska (emotionally vacant) and Davis / LSO (buggers it around too much) first, then settled on Lenny. :)

Well, I've just settled down to watch the first Berliner Philharmoniker live concert available with my 7 day free trial of the Digital Concert Hall.
https://www.digitalconcerthall.com/de/news
I've had to run an ethernet cable to the Oppo to tackle the glitches and freezes. Our rural broadband just about coped. It glitched a few times towards the end. We managed an hour in HD with no problems, then the freezes started. I switched to SD and you could see the picture blocking up every so often. The internet's not been good here all day, though, so maybe not a fair trial.
On the programme this afternoon:
Anne-Sophie Mutter
Silvesterkonzert mit Simon Rattle und Anne-Sophie Mutter
Emmanuel Chabrier
Ouvertüre zur Oper L'Étoile
Camille Saint-Saëns
Introduction et Rondo capriccioso für Violine und Orchester a-Moll op. 28
Anne-Sophie Mutter Violine
Jules Massenet
Orchesterstücke aus der Oper Le Cid (Suite)
Maurice Ravel
Tzigane, Rhapsodie für Violine und Orchester
Anne-Sophie Mutter Violine
Francis Poulenc
Les Biches, Ballettsuite
Some nice stuff.

The cello sonata is OK.
The piano suite is excellent.
And so is the percussion concerto, which is also a bit of an audiophile extrravaganza in terms of sound quality.
I really enjoyed this recording. Played it 3 times yesterday!
