That sounds like good advice Grant, the little shits do know how to hold a grudge. I think it's all pheromone driven. I sprayed the hole at 4am in the hope that they were all still in bed.
There is another nest I think, a couple of metres from the front door, and they'll be on the lookout for the geezer waving a red can. I can't see the nest but there is steady traffic going in and out of a tiny gap in our five foot wide bed of heather. I don't know what to do about that one.
When I was looking on You Tube for pointers on how to do this, it led me to a couple of videos of wasp fighting bee. Truly horrific, upset me all evening. Hopefully my bees will appreciate my efforts.
Every spring I come across very large lone wasps while I'm working. I assume them to be queens and I always end them, my theory being that every dead queen (if that's what it is) is one less nest later. :guns:
as long as it wasnt about 2 inches long....thats the asian killer hornet... dodgy buggers those.
Why do they have to be destroyed? Are they actually doing any harm to anything?
they can hunt bees which aint good, also steal their food. and they are more likely to sting you. honey bees are nice things generally, and pollinate our food.
queens are only seen out of nest in early spring, when they are nest building, and very late autumn when they are looking for a hibernating space. other wasps just die.
Do they kill Europeans too? Nippon probably wouldn't bother them too much. Napalm would work better.
Yes Martin they do harm some things, namely bees and spiders, which I consider to be friends (I have no human friends). Plus I have a bit of a fear of wasps, not exactly a phobia but probably out of proportion with the actual threat (yes I know that's the definition of phobia).
I'm ok with them at this time of year while they feed off the sugars secreted by their grubs, but when that runs out they have to find other food sources and that's when they become a nuisance. And later, when they're all pissed from eating fermented fallen fruit, there's no reasoning with them.
actually asian hornets are often not much bigger than ours, but some are. they mostly kill bees, to feed their larve. their sting can kill a human, but so can ours tbh. its probably best to avoid them. i know france has an issue with them, but dont know if they are in uk. doubt they will come up here; scottish wasps and bees with put the heid in them;)
Does anyone know whether wasps benefit anything? They just seem to be a shower of shitheads with no real value to anyone. The chavs in hoodies of the insect world.
They are part of God's mysterious plan for the Universe. This video explains it all:

Wasps do actually help to pollinate crops, so not all bad.
French hornets didn't seem aggressive when we were there, they flew around you once and then flew away.
The wasps on the other hand were not happy when I was destroying their nests :dynamite:
Wasps, hornets, ants and spiders don't bother me. If you don't disturb them they'll leave you alone.
I'm careful working outside 'cos we have quite a few biting spiders here, but it's not their fault if I move something they are hiding in.
We get these here too.

I really like this months Album Club choice so I bought a copy from Music Magpie which arrived today. I put the CD in the player, sat down looking forward to a good listen only to hear the soundtrack from Days of Thunder coming from the speakers. Upon examination sure enough the wrong disc has been sent, how annoying. Now waiting for a reply from MP as to when the right disc will arrive. Hay Ho.
Hot, sexy and (a bit) mental is fine, as long as they aren't moody or 'high maintenance'!;)
I don't 'do' the latter.
Marco.
I once saw a You Tube video where this American guy was talking about the "Crazy/hot Ratio", and it was most informative. It was also perhaps a bit insulting for women, as it implied that mentalness is a female thing. And we all know there are male nutjobs too.
I just opened the front door for a bit of fresh air and had a bat flying back and forth a foot or two in front of my face several times. They're common enough, but I've not had one that close before.
My cat managed to catch one last summer and brought it into the house. The missus didn't care for it much, thought it looked like a gremlin. I think they're pretty cool, and completely harmless unless you're a moth. I like to sit outside and watch them. Apparently that makes me a bit strange. I tried to take photos of them, without success. I bet you (Geoff) could though.
its in my hair!!!!!!
A mate of mine was once bitten by a bat.
After that he couldn't say the letter C. (Khaki, kettle, Kipling, Kuwait, King's Bollege Bambridge)
Well, mate, it's pretty obvious you've got 'bats in the belfry':D:eyebrows:
Marco.
Just like buses old flames are coming in two's and three's.... :eyebrows:
Oh sorry we are on bats now... when I lived in a sleepy village we had loads of bats which came out every night... ;)

Is this the video?

I don’t know about sexy, but the crazier they are, the better in bed! At least, that’s my experience.
Russell
Indeed... Trouble is, that type are usually only good for one thing, so it depends on what you want: a partner/wife, and meaningful relationship, or simply a 'fuck buddy'...
Marco.
I know how the “Friends with benefits”, works out. You mutually decide to have a, “Casual Affair”, and the next morning she’s standing on your doorstep with her toothbrush! And if you don’t let her move in, you’re a son of a bitch and she never speaks to you again.
Russell
The word "affair" suggests the existence of infidelity, as that's what the term is mostly associated with. Therefore, if you're not in an existing relationship, and simply want sex with someone, then why dress it up as something else?
Quite simply, they're your 'fuck buddy'. Inelegant as that description may be, it's the truth!;)
Marco.
I have a couple of mates who are on disability and get their rent paid. So I suppose they are friends with benefits. Wouldn't want to shag 'em though.
Not even for a (lightly worn) pair of plastic sandals and a Werther's Original?
Marco.
That would be a tempting offer - I'm only human!
