I have one of the original releases (on CD) of DSOTM from around 1984 and I also have the Hybrid CD that you have; I have compared them many times.............. its a hard thing to try and describe in words. I think if I had a dedicated SACD player, I could give a liitle more of a fair assessment, but I haven't. Comparing them on my player (std. CD player) I can't hear a massive difference - maybe the SACD is slightly sharper in the odd place and maybe its got a very slight more of a processed sound whereas my original CD has more of an analogue sound. That's all I can really say. The equipment that I used for the listening comparison is listed below :)
I agree - all this navel gazing concerning the various versions and formats of DSOTM is to my mind somewhat irrelevant. As you say it all largely depends on the equipment used.
