Thanks for this Adrian. I’d kind of forgotten about this duo.

I saw them about 30 years ago. Probably Queens Hall in Edinburgh, but it may have been Band on the Wall, Manchester.

I just remember being blown away by the variety of music on offer from two players. It was a wonderful experience.

I had not been aware of this previously.

So, my first thought was that he had done something “classical” ish in a church. A La Garbarek.

I know Marsalis has been doing some classical stuff with orchestras etc. I’m not so keen on that !! I feel there are far better classical saxophonists out there than he is. I thought....oops, here we go !! Not going to like this.

So, having checked this out on you tube, I’m really pleased that it isnt that. It’s jazz based.

I like it.

For me, he has one of the best tenor sounds around, and in my view he has THE best soprano sound of anyone, currently.
So it was great to hear both. And he uses the natural reverb/echo of the church to great effect.
