Custom Arm Mounting Collar for Jelco SA-750 - essential for setting correct azimuth

I am lucky & thankful to have bought a custom arm mounting collar from Hugo's previous batch. But unfortunately I have to part with it. If anyone is interested in my copy, please PM me here or if you can't at markboon at hotmail.

Reason for this is that I couldn't set VTA correctly when mounting a Denon DL-103r to my technics SL-1200 as the space between the arm base and mounting plate was smaller than the ±12mm needed (in my estimation) to fit Shuggies robust and very well made collar.

So I think I'm stuck with the smaller Jelco stock mounting base. I purchased the Denon after shuggies collar, by the way.

Please go to the welcome section of the forum and introduce yourself there as the registration process asked you to. Say hello, tell us about your taste in music, system etc.

Making your first post a kind of 'for sale one' is frowned upon by the management as we like folks who come here to at least appear interested in AOS and the community and not just as a free means of selling unwanted items.

I am however surprised you have had a problem as I have a jelco 750 arm (shuggie collar) + Denon cart and had no problem. I suspect the issue may be with the arm board (what type/make is it?) or the height of the platter mat on the stock platter.

Hi Mark,
Your problem is very much a function of the SL1200 design which unfortunately does not very easily occomodate transplanted arms due to the low level orientation of the platter.
What you could do is to use a spacer between the head shell and the cartridge which will allow more room for VTA.

Insufficient height adjustment is a risk with my collar, since it's 5mm taller than the original. I do beleive that I have made that as clear as I can in this thread, though, and the SL-1200 is possibly the only deck where this could be an issue. As you say it does depend on the armboard and whether it is sufficiently recessed. Armboards with recessed centres are better than flat ones.

In my own case all the arm boards I have are recessed (Jelco and SME) but as I use a rubber sub mat with the Oyaide platter mat and or a MN platter + various mats I have so far had no height issues. However it is pretty clear that these issues are a strong possibility once one removes the stock arm.
