Great disc...well worth checking out. Quite realistic perspectives for Maira Joao Pires's piano in the Schumann with a nice sense of 'distance' instead of the spotlighting that's all too common.

And this is as good a recording as any, I think, and better than most.

Was in Anglesey today and picked up a minto vinyl box set of the Bach Brandenburg Concertos, with Lorin Maazel and the RSO Berlin, in a charity shop for a ridiculous £2.50:

Also got on vinyl: Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No2/Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No1, with Malcolm Binns (piano) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Gibson, on World Record Club Records, from 1968.

And 'Requiem', by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with Placido Domingo, Sarah Brightman, Lorin Maazel and the Winchester Cathedral Choir/English Chamber Orchestra, on EMI Records, from 1985.

Chalk and cheese you might think - 'authentic' and 'traditional' - but both very moving.
