Interstellar...
Much like one of the themes of the film, Christopher Nolans reach exceeds his grasp.
And you know what, bless him for that.
He's the only director nowadays with the Studio clout to make "concept" movies like this on a blockbuster level, and as a guy who grew up on Blade Runner, Silent Running, 2001 etc I can't get enough of that.
Yet... a slightly disappointed 7.5/10.
Overall very good but not great apart from several "whoa" moments that paid for the price of admission alone.
Some plot holes, but who cares? suspending disbelief is ok in my book if it doesn't take you out the movie.
Ambitious, technically wonderful but let down by some Basil Exposition level dialogue, carboard characters and an editor that sometimes needed a slap.
All that said, on to the good:

Nolan nails this in a way that makes it obvious he's a fan of Stanley Kubrick.
(There's a nice nod to 2001, almost a cameo even, that when you get it you'll smile)
I think though Danny Boyle did it just as well in Sunshine....need to dig that movie out again.

Hans Zimmer doing the honours for Nolan again, but a VERY different and surprising score compared to anything he's done with him before.
Quite like Philip Glass in some parts which is great and it works really well for the film.
Apparently Zimmer wrote the score based on a brief outline of the film Nolan gave him and wasn't written to directly match sequences in the film?
It's better for it too.
So,
Recommend you go see it, very good but not great.
As a film it reminded me less of 2001 but more like Contact another one I need to dig out again.
Glad I saw it in the cinema, won't be the same on Bluray on smaller screen.
nice write up Gary. not my thing but know that Nolan is a talent. can do it all and has done all in one film...ie "following" where he pretty much made the whole thing.

Fire Fox on ITV4 enjoyable slice of improbable spy, air combat movie, that was improbable when it was made and still is.
