Steve, regarding Listen Inn, I could tell you much, but I hope that in my day (98-2000 and 02-04) and after the amalgamation into the KJ "group," we became less FE, although the latter years when I was there part-time were difficult as the business suffered from the contraction of the industry, full-time staff enthusiasm evaporated and the business folded a few months after I was laid off. KJ (part/mostly owned by the LI proprietor) was doing well a year or so ago I understand...
The Spendors I own aren't big speakers by any means, but in our sitting room, they look huge. I keep trying to picture the likes of BC3's, 'Briks and Harbeth 40.1's, let alone a real Tannoy in here and it just wouldn't work!!!!!
You know, the AVI ADM9.1 *is* a very sensible choice for non-gear music lovers with small rooms and the best compromise for us would be the much more expensive Croft pre/power and Harbeth P3ESR's I reckon....

Yes, except its the source first imho. What Hi-Fi have in recent years persuaded people to go speaker first...buy the best speakers you can :doh:, but thats mad. You must imho, look to a balanced approach and consider how things will work in your room, and together. The room will always have the final say. There are however occasions, when changing amplification can cure a speaker issue that appeared to be a room set up issue. You had this experience yourself recently Hamish.Quote:

Neil- Yeah yeah that's what I'm saying, the source is the foundation, then amps then speakers!
I thought I had a problem with my speakers, but it was more the room and amps! And infact I thought the room was a major problem with the speakers I had, but it did infact turn out to be a lack of girth in the amp causing probs in the lower mids and bass
