Grant,
Is it worth spending a bit more for a semi pro machine like a Rancilio?
Thinking in terms of it still making a good cuppa in 5 years, minimum servicing that kinda thing.

I wouldn't swap mine for a Sylvia. It may be a better machine but probably not much. If I change mine it will be further up chain. But so far the sage has been good
.. It has a pid in it which is great for price
How long you had the Sage?
Solid reviews on it...
About 10 months. No probs with it really. I obviously would like a bigger fancier one but tbh this is really all I need for a couple a day. The smart grinder is good too.
Trick is to get grind and tamp right. To an extent it depends on beans, and I would recommend blending, but I will say don't grind too fine and don't go too heavy on pressure tamping. I've tried various methods and pretty much got it bang on now
And we’ve seen the evidence of that. :)
Will have a think, may treat m’self this month.
Been enjoying my coffee more this weather.
What one would you move up to Grant?
If I had enough dosh I'd probably get an ECM Mechanika v slim. But I guess it will be summat more modest. Maybe a rocket
Let the battle commence...

That's what I'd get if I were you and don't mind the spend.
The problem is if you like coffee you will upgrade and that Rocket is good enough to stop it for a long time.
Otherwise, get the Ranc.
When you see the Appartmento in the flesh it's just an item of pure lust.
One more point.
There's the law of diminishing returns and expensive grinders and coffee machines aren't that much better that £300-500 machines.
So a Ranc is pretty decent.
I'd say Gaggia Classic but the modern ones aren't considered as good as the older ones.
As my brother says, though, a Rocket just says "fuck off!".
ecm build quality and accessibility for me, but its heading to 1400.. becomes luxury goods, so not likely to happen. The sage machines are damn good for under 300 quite frankly.
