Rob could you do a right review of the IAS the you got at Scalford 2o12 would love to know what you thought of them
As you know, I did not have them that long but got them as they were going silly cheap. They were a lot bigger than I was expecting ;)
To be honest they were too big for my room but did not do too badly.
Nice punchy bass and good mid-treble integration from the wide range Richard Allen driver. Slightly soft on top and not the best at soundstage but that was comparing to the Kolts.

I bet those KEFs need some serious current to really get to grips. Yonks ago, I demmed some KEF 105/3 (kind of big bruvs to yours) and they were seriously lacking without an amp with a big PSU to get them in line. Power was very much less important, Current is King for these KEFs, I reckon.
You'll have to get a very hefty valve amp to do them justice, I suspect.
I would agree Jerry, the little A10 gave me more than enough SPL, hell even the Decware would probably be a good match.
Would be interesting to try some at some later point.

I think thats the point with the Kefs, they done excell in any particular area but seem to just be 'good' across the board.

Nice write-up, Rob. Like Jerry, I've always found that big KEFs can sound excellent provided they've got a sodding great butch amp firing up their jacksie. My brother-in-law was left a pair of the big dalek ones (105s?) and they sounded anaemic with Quad a 405 amp. I know they can sound better than that as there was a pair at last year's Scalford show sounding wonderful with a Krell amp driving them.
