That double deck is 'kin ugly, is it even an official Michell or a bodge job ? I have one of the first double decks John made and it's a beautiiful thing with weighted platters and mounts for four arms, plus a lid....:)

yes that be the double 'prisma' you have. if you have a JA.Michell badge on it your very lucky as they were nearly all Transrotor badged ;)

The 'double deck' was something that I asked John to make so that I could demonstrate arms. The deck takes four arms at one sitting and I have spare boards for another dozen or so. You can change an arm in two minutes flat, so it was dead easy to do comparisons.

John decided that it was (obviously) more cost effective to make a small batch of these decks than just the one and most of those went abroad, hence the Transrotor label. John asked me to pay 'what a Linn cost' for it and I was more than happy to oblige.

We had it turning in our shop window for years and I'd like a Pound for every kid who came in with 'Hey mate, ow much is that disco deck'....:doh:

John was a nice bloke he would put himself out, make time to talk to you on the phone, he made me alsorts of non standard stuff for my old Hydraulic deck..

John was a true gent, one of those people who did what he did because he loved to do it. He never gave the impression that he was in business to make money (as he surely was) but more that he liked to do a job & do it well.

I still get a little sad about his passing when I think of the times our paths crossed. Just a really nice guy
