Some time ago I had to renew my driving licence - did it all on-line and the new photo plastic licence was supplied within about a week, and at no cost to me at all. :)
This time I needed to renew my passport. I could have done it all online, but in having to supply new photographs, I decided to make a postal application. Well again the service was very fast; the new passport ariving in just under two weeks after posting off the application. The only difference was that in total it cost me £107.
So now I have a new black passport, the same size as the old maroon EU ones, but one which is less versatile! :doh:
Good to hear, my passport is almost ready for renewal. Do you have any plans for your new passport Barry? I haven't been out of the country since before Covid.

OK, so 'versatile' was not the best adjective to use; I couldn't think of anything more appropriate when I posted. Thinking about it, 'less convenient' would have been a better choice of words. What I meant to imply is that since the new passport is not an EU passport, I won't be able to use the quick route through passport control when I visit any European country.Quote:

Something like 30 pubs a month are closing, due to the greatly increased costs of beer and energy. When it is a pub like the one you have cited, it's a real shame and a loss. If it is a Weatherspoons pub, it's no loss at all! :DQuote:

Gets quite hot and humid so popped it into bathroom. It's also heating the upstairs as a free extra.

Are you using it in the bathroom? Even if it is double insulated, it could pose a safety risk.

its a clothes drying pod. a bit like a heated airer but in a bag to up the temp. it can get up to 70c apparently. has a timer on it or you can just do it manually. if its getting too warm you can open zip a bit. impressed with it tbhQuote:

Had a nice drive out today. Drove through Blackpool (which has seen better days - that's as charitable as I can be about it). I suppose most seaside towns are in decline these days, and have become repositories for the drugs and alcohol dependant, and pretty much anyone who can't or won't work.
Then on to Lytham (much better). Had lunch there, then Anita did some clothes shopping while I did a tour of the charity shops. She spent 50 quid on a cardigan and a handbag, I blew 99p on a Gabrielle CD. Good selection of vinyl though, as long as Des O'Connor and Cliff Richard in falling-apart sleeves are your thing.

Err - don't. I spent some time in Japan, and their loos take time to get used to. The spray flush is OK, but the 'warm seat' setting I switched off, as it felt as though someone had recently sat on the loo.

It's true that as from about the '80s we have become used to enjoying 'non-seasonal' vegetables and fruits here in the UK - to the point that when there is a shortage we get upset.
The current shortage is due to what was traditionally known as "the Gap": the time gap between when locally-produced veg was unobtaiable due to winter weather, and the Spring growing season. The Gap is now filled by importing veg and fruit from Europe and Africa. North Africa has suffered from very cold weather, snow and hail; hence low yield. Europe is enjoying what it has produced, and sees no real reason to share it with the UK. In the UK, local farmers are unable to sell to supermarkets because the supermarkets won't pay the prices asked (the 'Contract problem'), and we can't import from the EU for reasons mentioned and also because of Brexit we have made it more difficult to do so. :doh:

Interestingly I bought a punnet of strawberries last weekend, they are from Morocco too, I suppose they are less vulnerable to stormy weather even though they are very close to tomatoes genetically.
Apart from apricots, there isn't any fruit or vegatables that we cannot get locally: if the local supermarket doesn't have it, the greengrocer does. Maybe a little more expensive, but I don't pay too much attention to prices - unless they are obvious and outrageous: such as the price of milk and of certain breads.
Tonight for dessert, we had fresh mango, and for breakfast this morning I had fresh raspberries on my (alarmingly expensive) museli.
