Back to the brush.....I showed the OP to SWMBO....Havent heard her laugh so much for ages. Not a comment on its efficacy, if it was a tenner I would probably get one but I do think someone is taking the pi$$.

I know *exactly* where you're coming from, as that's how I felt when I saw it... I even said to David that for the price Furutech are charging, they could've at least made the handle out of a nice piece of real wood!!

However, as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating (or in this case, listening), and quite simply, NOTHING else I've used removes static from records like the SK2. And when you hear the resulting sonic improvement this gives, you just can't live without it! :)

Try using one of your wife's (unused) make-up brushes instead and see what happens... If you get into it, you can then move onto wearing her frocks! :lol: ;)

What the hell, I use a make up brush to dust my tonearm (double ended also !)
it's supersoft, probably softer than an artists brush so I'm not ashamed to fess up.

Ok challenged excepted,im going to attempt making my own rcm.Im giving myself a budget of £150 although i think i can get it done for about £100.

I'll start a new thread in the diy section when i start to get some parts.

I think you can buy the KAB Nitty Gritty for that price. You have to use it with a vacuum cleaner though.

not really,there's nothing that is potentially damaging coming into contact with the record so should be safe enough.Having said that,i'll use some of my less liked vinyl first.

Getting back on-topic, having now tested it, I am pleased to report that the SK2 brush also has a positive effect on CDs :)

After gentle brushing with the SK2, CDs sound 'fresher', more dynamic, and with a slight hard edge removed, making music more interesting and enjoyable to listen to.

So it's a very useful accessory for both vinyl and CD lovers! :cool:

If you have a problem with flac and other hi-res virtual audio files (virtual because you cannot see them) maybe Malcolm Stewards' military grade sata cable would help.......:chainsaw:

yes and no chris,steve posted the same thread on Vinyl Engine but with updated parts which im going to try and copy.

Instead of a vacuum he used a mini airbrush compressor/vaccum pump which is apparrently much quieter.

Have you tried this brush on CDs or similar silvered plastic 12CM discs yet Marco? Just asking, as David thinks you have & you can hear a difference :)

I'm going to cause gasps of astonishment here! but I rarely use anything to clean my records. I just pop them on the platter, drop the needle on and listen.

I can't say I hear many pops or static stuff and if I do I just accept that its part of the medium or maybe I have simply tuned it out.

It just doesn't seem to bother me...:confused:

could it be that the brush will bring an extra degree of resolution to what you are hearing from your vinyl, I would bet on it.

Since I don't know what equipment you use it's difficult to comment. All I know these things did not bother me as a teenager playing records on my dad's radiogram (at least it was a valve job the significance of which passed me by at the time). Frankly you may be lucky with atmospheric conditions in your house but the most annoying thing is that static attracts dust which accumulates on your stylus. Hence crackle and pops and more rapid stylus wear.

As far as the magic brush is concerned it's effect is likely marginal if you clean records with an RCM or even a Knosti. Records cleaned this way and placed in antistatic sleeves in my experience remain static free attracting little dust when played and the stylus remains clean. I know Marco thinks otherwise but it's got to do something special for a ton. If I win the Euro lottery I might change my view mind. :)
