The Marco-boy main system, as of August 2020

You might want to consider replacing those black base 6SL7's with the superior specification RCA 6591 red base. I had my Croft modded to accept these alongside being backwards compatible with all other 6SL7 variants. There is also another mod with each valve receiving a regulated power supply (a little over my head). Just an idea for you.

Lol - it's music from 'my era', and the production on '19' is superb, with bass that would awaken the dead!:gig:

I've got around 300 12" singles from the 80s, all mint, from the days when I played them in my teenage bedroom, on an Ariston RD11S/Linn LV V, with a Denon DL-103. The rest of the system was a Sondex S230 (with a Lentek MC head amp, as the Sondex only had an MM phono stage), and a pair of Mission 700S speakers, on wall shelves.

Not a bad system for a 17-year old! The girlies seemed to like it, too!;)

The 15XRs reside downstairs in the lounge, and form part of my music/movie/streaming set-up... That wot you've seen here is my dedicated hi-fi/music, on a physical format, room:cool:

Thanks for the tips! If you look, however, at the valve to the left of the two RCAs in question, you'll see the red base... Yes, it's a 6591!

So yes, I know what you mean, they're superb, but I prefer the RCAs on the phono stage. They're not just any old RCAs, btw, but military-spec VT229s - early ones too, found in an ammo box in the States from WW2. I have all the documents. Early valves like that, from the 1940s, usually always sound best, and these ones are superb.

In the Croft I use a mixture of 6SL7s from different manufacturers, all carefully selected in specific positions, so that I obtain the best of their sonic signatures. Trust me, I know what I'm doing;)

Noted on that mod for the Croft, yeah I've heard Glenn mention something about that. There are a few more things I could defo do to mine, but am in no rush to fiddle, as I'm very happy with the sound as it is:cool:
