Ahh some excellent 80s memories there. The music was great but the fashions...
Mind you, at the time it did have it's moments...
Some of my faves from the era:

Propaganda - Duel
Data - an obscure synth/electronica band, and this track reeks of the 80s paranoia about nuclear armageddon - right around the time of Threads (anyone remember that drama?) and When The Wind Blows. Opera Electronica is still a great album.
In the same vein -
i'd love to say that it was Ms Bush's take on the world political zeitgeist that attracted me to her, but the plastic suit may have had more bearing.
On a lighter note, and still a great video all these years later
Truly (imho) one of the great 80s bands, and this video album - yes, there was a video for each song - one of the most groundbreaking uses of pop video in a long time. I just loved Matt Johnson for his coruscating anger at the injustices of the Thatcher years (right on!)
and he did write one of my fave angst anthems ever:
i suppose the days of videos like this are long gone (as well they should be, according to many of my friends)
And whilst not exactly a song, a clip from a show dear to my heart that many who grew up in the 80s remember. Geeky obsessives may want to ponder the connection with this and one of the videos above.

As a child of the 60s of course I bought the usual stuff Beatles/Stones/Who/Yardbirds (me fave rave at the time) etc but I was also drawn to that now sadly lost art form, the orchestral instrumental. I did actually buy these and others, at the time:).
