How do I service my bearing ?

a customer sent me details of the job

Johnnie supplied me with a few vials of booster oil.
the oil can be applied in situ. but to totally remove and replace the old fluid and therefore reap the ultimate benefit - the bearing must be removed.
here is how to do a full clean and change:

remove the centre screws and lift the pcb. the bearing will now lift out. there is a circlip at the base of the bearing - remove. clean off all original oil with supplied cloths and buds.


then
apply the new oil. re-fit, re-connect and enjoy
imo, the main bearing didn't seem a great design so the slippery oil can only help

In actual fact, a thicker oil maybe the ideal when used on the standard bearing. There is so much looseness and 'play' between the simple stainless steel spindle and the brass insert that allmost any oil will do the job.
All the BS that I read about very special (and expensive) oils for the standard techie bearing is just that, and makes me spill my wine with laughter.

It's built to a price, dude. Replacing it with one of Mike's superb bespoke high-precision bearings is therefore, IMO, mandatory, if you want the Techy to sound like a genuinely high-end turntable.

Mike, I could do with some more oil for my bearing (as the bloody cat got hold of the last lot you sent, and somehow managed to spill it all over the floor! :doh:)

Could you send me some, mate? Churz! :cool:

You meean to say you have got some oily cat poo!!!!!

Lol... They didn't eat the oil (thankfully) - just decided to chase the syringe around the house, as a play thing! My fault for leaving it out on the kitchen table, after using it.

I was only joking ,but its funny how interested cats are when they come across a valve amp (switched on)

The most fun I EVER had with a cat :-

1 Cat

1 Laser pointer ( Red dot type )

= hours of fun and one knackered cat :lol:

It was my sisters cat , even she had a go and could not stop laughing :D
