I hope someone else picks up their shows, the good ones anyway, I'm not going to miss 'Surgical Spirit.'
Now we're pretty much going to be reduced to just ITV4 and Talking Pictures for proper telly.
Not as scary as the fact that show ran for seven series. It's so bad I can't even watch a couple of minutes of it.
Funny how some shows have improved with age, I mean 'Return Of The Saint' was crappy back in 1979 (except for the theme tune and opening title sequence ofc) yet still, compared to modern shows, it's not that bad. But I'd rather watch the 'Woke Cops With Issues' modern BBC shite than sit through an episode of 'Surgical Spirit'.
Just to clarify I would never watch 'Woke Cops With Issues' either unless you were to put a gun to my head and force me to make a choice.
not worth paying the licence fee.. i buy what i want on file and have prime etc free stuff (mostly guff) as back up. ive my dvds on hdd and my blurays too. at least what i watch is good to me irrellevent how often i watch it. thats the proof of a good show or film to me.
Actually saying that I did watch one episode of something terrible when I visited my mother. A serial killer was on the loose, as usual, and the woke cops with issues had to track him down.
Lots of mediocre actors saying serious things in serious tone of voice. Strong female cop who shows her fragile side but only to emphasise how professional and capable she is to overcome it.
The problem with these things is I don't care about the people who are being murdered and I don't care about the people trying to catch him as they are all so one-dimensional. I end up rooting for the serial killer to carry on and do some more murders.
yes, repeated watching is the true test. I've got loads of DVDs but I find it more fun to watch things that are broadcast, makes it more special somehow than picking something from a library, whether it's physical on a shelf or on a streaming service. I will end up going that way, though, as broadcast TV just gets worse and worse.
im opposite. hated being tied to a time to watch summat. used to record everything but that was tiresome too as it often didnt appear for whatever reason. tennis player split his shorts so we are staying with this sort of shit. your program youve been waiting for all week will be crammed into a tight schedule at some other time where you'll miss it.;)
I have occasionally taped a programme then when I come to watch it, it's a totally different programme from what was advertised. That's annoying, it only seems to happen on the crappier cable channels though.
Even worse are programmes with the same name as something good, or crappy remakes that keep the same name. You tape 'The Taking of Pelham 123' and when you come to watch it find out it's the dismal John Travolta version. Or you tape 'UFO' only to discover that it's a documentary series with the same name and not the classic 1969 show you were hoping to see.
Cutting is a problem too. They cut all the stripper shows out of early 'Minder' episodes, and that bit in 'The Sweeny' where you see Diane Keene's jugs.
There's also a whole episode of 'The Professionals' that they never show, the one where we find out that Bodie is a racist, even though other episodes make it clear that he isn't.
And 'Porridge' where they blur the page 3 girls that are pinned up on the cell wall. Tragic beyond belief.
Watched the last half of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' the other night, there's a bit where they break into the control room on the tanker and slaughter all the technicians. That was cut almost completely. Bond shouts 'Cease fire' but they haven't actually fired at all, then you see all these blokes lying dead. How did that happen then? Just makes no sense.
This Aviva ad where they are teetering on the rocks crossing a stream - which is quite clearly no more than an inch deep. From the look on the woman's face you'd think she was swinging over the Grand Canyon on a trapeze.

Yeah, if she was faced with some of the things we routinely tackled she'd be straight on her smart blower for dad to rescue her. Looks like that coat will keep her warm while she waits though.
She looks a lot like my Aunty Jill. But it's not her.
USA wont be reducing its carbon footprint after the republican senior court has banned them ordering it...(obviously backed by 'big coal').
so we might as well give up on our efforts as the US produces 14% emmisions all by its polluting self.

The only positive from that is we'll have someone else to blame apart from China. :(
nigeria isnt there:ner:
How much of the 22% 'rest of world' is Nigeria though? Anyway I suspect these figures, like a lot of climate 'science' are just pulled from someone's ass. They are 'estimates' and how they estimated them is very relevant, but we don't know how so I wouldn't put any faith in it as it stands.
Aggregates are a distraction. What is more important is the per capita figure and what countries are doing (long term) to reduce emissions!
Short term actions to respond to the crisis caused by Russia in invading Ukraine are a matter of political and economic expediency. They should not distract from long term policy goals and actions to achieve those goals.
I agree.
Classic stuff:
''Dozens kept in church basement awaiting second coming of Christ freed by police''
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world...bc306c1c512aba
''Some people had been kept in the church since last year, according to local residents.
Pastors had encouraged church members "to stay behind" and wait for the rapture, a police spokeswoman said.
One pastor had told church members it would take place in April, then later claimed it had been changed to September.''
Some people will believe any fanciful nonsense. Good job the church wasn't run by somebody like Jim Jones.
javid and sunak have both chucked it... had enough of the lies, or saving their political skin?
Deserting a sinking ship. If I worked for that firm I'd be off too.
and a stinking shit:eyebrows:
On a happier note, and entirely unrelated, I saw a hummingbird hawk moth at the weekend, going about its business. Never seen one in this country before. Maybe I should get out more
looked that one up apparently it's a lucky omen:
Hummingbird hawk-moths have been seen as a lucky omen. In particular, a swarm of the moths was seen flying across the English Channel on D-Day, the day of the Normandy landings in the Second World War. These moths, along with other moths, are in the family Sphingidae because their larvae were thought to resemble the Egyptian Sphinx.
There's a photo of one knocking about in Finland and it's perishing there.
Oooh. Sunak & Javid resigned........Boris is on the way out!
I wonder what clown will replace him?
Ha, just noticed Grant posted on it. Never mind, it bears mentioning twice :).
I'm all set to celebrate! :partytime: :mex:
big dawg refusing to yield floor.. right, he will be off to ukraine shortly again lol

He'll be awarded the grand order of the boot soon. Just don't let that Rees-Mogg thing get a nomination.
If he does go, which I still think is very unlikely, you can expect a compromise replacement, it won't be Rees-Mogg.
The big dogs won't want the job because right now it's a poison chalice. Everything is being driven by global events which are out of anyone's power to fix.
They are just setting themselves up to strike much further down the line.
ben wallace might get gig.
bbc now flashing up that he has agreed to resign ...
yup he is going but wants to remain til autumn. that might be tricky with no govt
i wanted him to stay. he was at least consistent in his behaviour and in general didnt have an axe to grind unlike most in the tory party currently. He was a pathalogical liar of course but when you know that you just believe opposite of what he said.(lets face it, most politicians are liars). Alas he wasn't a very good one and often got caught.
Next one will be a right wing fascist if im not mistaken.
Fascism? Not really a tory party thing. State above the individual, restriction of personal liberties, planned economy - aside from the nationalist aspect fascism is a left wing ideology with more in common with socialism and communism.
My guess is it will be another useless no-mark like Major or May. Someone who is not really up to the job but who won't scare the horses.
