Possibly, although that's not why I use it. The most important thing (not the claimed higher octane levels) is that the premium fuels have better detergents in them, which prevent the build up of gunky deposits and keeps key parts of your engine clean, thus allowing it to perform to its maximum potential.

In that respect, don't be tempted with supermarket fuels, no matter how cheap they are, as they use very basic detergents, which don't keep your engine properly clean, thus IME are a false economy. Experiment with premium fuels from all the major suppliers, such as Shell, BP and Esso, although my car runs best on Texaco, who also do a 'Supreme Unleaded', see here: https://texaco.co.uk/motorists/our-motor-fuels

It's not as easy to find as the others, but if you've got a station near you which stocks it, then I'd give it a go. The one I use locally is the only remaining family-run filling station in the Wrexham area, and the service is superb, as I deal directly with the owner or his daughter.

It's only a small station (and so never really gets busy, which means that you can be in and out in 5 mins or less - no queues), and so they only stock a limited amount of the Supreme Diesel I like, which frequently runs out, so get this for customer service.... I spoke to the owner the other day and mentioned that the Supreme Diesel was always running out and often unavailable when I came to fill up.

Now, if I fill the tank up in the Brabster with said diesel I can spend the best part of £90, and I can do that sometimes three times a month, so he said that he'd call his supplier and arrange for a tanker to deliver a pot of Supreme Diesel, just for me, as he doesn't like disappointing his good customers!!:eek:

And true to his word, I went along yesterday and the pump reserved for Supreme Diesel had been replenished. Plus, he said that now he knows I'll be in regularly to use it, he'll make sure that it's kept stocked up. Therefore, he's now secured my permanent business!

How's that for personal service, eh? I couldn't imagine big commercial filling stations doing that!!:nono:

not many fuel stations here now. tesco and morrisons mostly... certainly no texaco now. small staions like that got muscled out by the big suppliers

Yup, but not in some small villages, certainly down here, which is why I support family-run businesses whenever I can. You've got to agree, that was pretty amazing service, eh?

Plus, the staff are so cheery and pleasant whenever you go in, and always up for a chat. Unlike the surly, scowling soulless zombies, normally found in bigger stations, who barely acknowledge your presence and simply couldn't give a damn! The experience is so soulless and impersonal.

That's why I enjoy living like it was in the 'good old days', as much as possible, where old-fashioned values and standards of service still exist:)

There was a Shell station where I used to live where I would fill the S6 3 or 4 times a week, I used to do a lot of miles plus the Audi was a thirsty old beast. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and when I had a problem with my left leg and found walking very painful they used to come out of the shop to take payment and sometimes do the fill up for me if it was quiet. I used to return the favour by running the staff home if they were ready. A little bit of give and take goes a long way.

Nice one, Ian. It's the way that life should be! Helping out your fellow man. Quite simply, I like going to places where, as a customer, I still feel that I *matter*:)

yup, was good... i use the card at the pump in tesco usually.. dont have to try and walk to till and wait.. their top one in momentum ..its 99 octane i will ask when at toyota if they recommend using the higher octane or not

My view mate, is ask away and by all means take what you're told into consideration, but do your own research, try the fuels in question and learn from practical experience - and so ultimately trust your OWN judgement;)

Therefore, if *you* feel that the car goes better on some form of premium unleaded fuel, compared with the basic stuff, then that's all that matters!

I've long held that dealing with local independent suppliers is the way to go. I'm on first name terms with them all, and I know if I have a problem with something or just need some advice, they will bend over backwards to help.

One particular supplier gives me 'unofficial' credit - I pay them after I get paid. It's worth paying a little extra for this kind of service, but you know what, they often prove to be a bit cheaper than the big chains, who may sell you a Karcher pressure washer cheap, but pull your pants down if you just want a tube of silicone.
