I'm off to East Prussia on my holidays :D

Yes, they were modelled on the early German Contax designs. I used to have a Russian 'Fed 3', which was based on the German Leica.

You still see Middlesex on people's addresses and that's not existed since the 1970s.
I was right. Loads of indignant waffle from House of Commons. Nothing they can do though, any sanctions will be maneuvered around by Russia.
Moldova may well be on Putin's wish list after Ukraine. After that, we need to watch what the US may do if Lithuania are threatened. They are NATO! Could go very badly indeed.
Interesting that in the PM’s statement to MP’s when outlining the UK’s response he said “eventually Military”
I am still convinced we’re living in some sort of computer simulation - on the day that most COVID restrictions are dropped, the Third World War starts...
And I never knew that Middlesex wasn’t actually a thing since before I was born!
I give up, time for wine.
Never really believed that it would get this mad - Putin seems to have made a veiled threat about nukes if Nato (or anyone else) gets too involved.
China will be watching very carefully (watch out Taiwan).
North Korea could then chance its arm. Could be "end of days".
Sod it, I'm off to the pub.
I thought I’d put the RT (Russia Today) news channel on... they’re re-running documentaries about how the Ukrainians are the aggressors in the separatist controlled (Russian backed) states and how Ukraine are breaking the Minsk agreement...
We wouldn't know it was coming.
The Russians have been surveying undersea installations for years and with the onset of a war situation would destroy all cable and optical links to the UK, not to mention power, oil and gas supplies. And our government would shut down all internet, phones and media transmissions.
im on my way out anyway so it wont bother me... a five minute warning and i'll arse my best bottle of whisky;) shame for my kids and grandkids and everyone elses' tho.
but russia will be a wasteland; as will china, so not all bad. yanks have plenty space in bunkers.
I’m up in the loft tomorrow, I’m sure I’ve still got a “Protect and Survive” pamphlet from the 80’s up there somewhere, doors will be off and my “inner refuge” will be created. Emergency supplies will be entirely bottles of wine!
Good night out - ran the pub quiz, and hadn't realised that drinks were "on the pub"
I don't know, thieves can sometimes be quite discerning. A work colleague once told me his car was broken into while visiting his girlfriend, and they'd made off with about 30 albums he had left in the boot. but they left behind his copy of "Living in the Material World" by George Harrison. I used to have that album and thought it was pretty good, in fact I even paid for my copy.
Just to liven her day up. When the missus came downstairs, I told her the Americans had bombed Moscow overnight.
Not sure she believed me :).
What have you got against Muscovites? I found them perfectly charming, but that was 30 years ago!
When my mate had a holiday in St. Petersburg and Moscow a few years ago, he brought me back a souvenir mug featuring a topless Putin riding a grizzly bear. That has been my regular coffee mug ever since. But now I think I'd use a felt marker to draw some tassels onto his nipples.
And that is about as severe a sanction as anything Boris will have the stomach for.
that mug could get you in to a lot of trouble when they invade UK. Just remember "don't tell them your name Pike"
"We're doomed! Doomed I tell ye!"
Whenever I've been to Bulgaria there has always been items for sale featuring Putin doing something which may be considered macho - examples include previously mentioned mug with Putin bareback riding a grizzly bear, or (I got my mate one of these) a beach towel with Putin hugging a tiger. I don't know if the objects were promoting Vlad as a superhero, or just taking the piss.
Now there's a business opportunity - Y fronts with Vlad on them (hugging a python perhaps. Where is Marco when you need him?)
I see some reports say the Ruskies are getting bogged down in their advance. I was wondering if that would happen. Although you can't rely on the information we are getting one way or the other.
The world has always been mad.
It think it sort of perpetually alternates between the two Jakes.
For 'The Shining' I'm a big fan of the 'Wendy Theory' which, if correct, means Jack isn't mad at all, but Wendy is:

I don’t think Putin was expecting the strong resistance of the Ukrainians, or the united response from the West. I agree with Grant, this needs to be an “inside job” - you have to feel sorry for the Russian population, but they, the government and military need to say enough is enough...
interesting trying to interpret the looks on the faces of the defence minister and and chief of staff as Putin told them to put nuclear forces on special regime of combat readiness :)
I expect they are likely to have been told how to look. The whole thing may well be rehearsed.
There's a lot of 'spin' coming from all directions I think, notice how we mostly hear about the difficulties the Russians are encountering. It's likely negative news about Ukraine progress is suppressed.
Putin should have taken a leaf out of the U.S. handbook on war and called the invasion 'Humanitarian Intervention'.
That is exactly what he has done - during the past couple of years over half a million Russian passports have been issued to residents of Donbass region of Ukraine.
He is now going in to protect those Russian citizens.
Putin doesn't need a handbook from anyone, he was trained as a lawyer and worked for the KGB for quite a few years before entering in to a career in extortion, corruption and self aggrandisement (whoops should read "politics", but spell checker took over )
well he has pretty much got whole world bar belarus and to an extent, china agaist his country now. their finances are going back to stone age. he needs to wise up fast before someone in the kremlin does it for him.
China knows what side its bread is buttered, and will know that a few million skint Russian citizens won't be enough to prop up their economy. They're already on a yellow card with me.
Also China can't be too anti Russia over this invasion because they plan to do similar with Taiwan.
Sensible to sit back, be non committal and see what the west does with Russia.
