They offer much the same. Three way, with 12" bass drivers. Good fun at not much cost.
I have a pair of Magnums (obtained from Tom). Geoff have you ever recapped a pair and is it worth it?
Not owned any, but used them and heard them plenty. A recap is probably worthwhile, should be dead easy. Just take the bass driver out and the crossover will probably be accessible. My guess is that there will only be one or two capacitors on each crossover. Alcaps are perfect for vintage speakers. Might be worth fitting modern banana sockets or binding posts at the same time.Quote:

skies the limit tbh. i use a reflex box. current ones have double drivers in but have another set that only have one driver each...running full range but a tweeter or super tweeter can be added, as i guess a big bass driver if you wanted. ive found a rectangular vent to be better than a round one

Vintage KEF Concerto speakers in Sutton Coldfield. Need a bit of a tidy, but drivers look sound. Excellent old speakers these, a significant cut above your Dovedales and Magnums. BIG sound and surprisingly decent too, transparent mid, plenty of punch and well detailed! Definitely a classic. These are a bit below the radar and comparatively cheap so far, but I predict prices will go silly soon. Well worth grabbing!

I’m not too convinced to be honest. The sound was definitely different (tighter bass and more controlled) but the imaging and space in the soundstage seemed to suffer.
For the moment at least, I’ve gone back to the Precious Metals. May give these a go on an alternative source.

In my system the bass is much better controlled and the imaging really did open out. Had some very slight sting in the upper treble at first, but as the running hours are moving on that has gone.Quote:

Yes. I saw those earlier. Looks like somebody put a home concoction in a set of Dynatron cabinets or similar. The tweeters are nasty brash Philips units and the mids are cheap Eagle items, which may actually be OK, but nothing special. The bass drivers however are rare and rather nice Celestion 'Studio' units and about ten years older than the other drive units, made in the late sixties/early seventies.Quote:

Yes, and I had a minter pair as well. However 'lovely' they may be, they also suffer from severe bextrene quack which I've pointed out a number of times on this forum - and before other people say they've never noticed this, please bear this in mind if you're thinking about buying a pair because if you have half decent hearing, you will detect this. Shame really, the Corelli could have been a half decent speaker if it wasn't for this issue.Quote:

It's a small magnet SP1052 B200 and although appearing the same is actually different to the preceding Chorale model's SP1014. The early Corellis employed a similar cone to the Chorale item, but the voicecoil was aluminium wire instead of the previous copper wound version. Later Corellis have a cone of slightly different appearance, due I believe to the Plasticote doping being sprayed on instead of brush applied.Quote:

My Kid brother bought an Akai GXC?? similar to that from a Gulf duty free store in approx. '74. think the amp was a huge 3W per channel. If memory is right they was considered to be the dogs gonads.
