Nice looking Quad 33/303/FM3 on Gumtree: https://www.gumtree.com/p/stereo-sys...303/1281524918
A 33 in good condition is not really that bad, the FM3 is a pretty good sounding tuner.
I used to use a 33/303 combo for AV duties. (Now use a Hafler DH101/Quad 520 combo.)
My Quad FM3 has given me thirty years of trouble-free service, and was only replaced with the FM4 some eight years ago.
In general Quad gear is very well built, and on the whole quite reliable. I'm a big Quad fan; excluding the speakers, I have 14 items of Quad electronics.
I agree Quad stuff is generally well made and good, but the 303 has woolly bass and the top is muffled.
The 33 has all sorts of rebuilds available.
That series is very old now, and IMO bettered by much other equipment.
I agree. For around the same money. The 306 offers similar power to the 303, but better grip and far superior detail and transparency.

Just been looking at the Hifi Hanger shop on ebay and there are some very nice tone arms worth looking at if you have the money eg Dynavector (including one Blue finish), Morch and Breuer. Looks like he bought some collectors stock over Xmas

A good honest guy to deal with based on my experience
Agreed. Lovely Morch tonearm, me thinks
Depends on the implementation and the speakers used; also very much dependent on the quality and specification of the output capacitors.
The 33 is 'of its time' and is, as you say, bettered by more recent designs, but in its day it was no worse than its competitors: Leak 'Varislope', Radford SC22 (though the SC24 was an improvement) and the Sugden C51.
Bloody hell when did it start being a grand for a second hand tik-tok ?

i dont think thats expensive if you factor in the value of the arm, thats got to be worth £200 so £673 for a rare top of the line pioneer seems reasonable to me, and its got a huge vu meter!!!!!
Decent enough starter system? https://www.gumtree.com/p/stereo-sys...ape/1282493771
Oh fuck it, I was going to keep it quiet till the zeta was back.
Yes I won it
