Ditton 25's are way inferior to 44's and I've compared both many times in the past.. The 25's had two HF1300 tweeters side by side - I believe for greater efficiency, giving an odd dispersion characteristic and the sound was heavy and lumpy, even on stands. The 44's on lowish stands can sound rich yet lovely with it...

The 25 had no proper midrange unit, it could also be that two 1300's were used to increase their power handling as they cross over from a 12" unit and that might be at a lower frequency than would be ideal for a 1300.

I have never heard the 25, but have seen it written many times that the 44 is a better speaker.

I have some 44's and they are not bad at all, very good bass. I still prefer the treble from the HF1300 / Coles 4001G combination as used in the Spendor BC1, B&W DM4 etc.

This is just about precisely what i mentioned on another thread on here. I have heard the 25s but it was years ago... You really needed to be at ear level between the two 1300's to get a good image, notice that the HF2000 was set between the two but offset to one side.

As long as these criteria are met then they sound fine with just a tad less bass extension than the 66. The 66 makes a mess of the 25 though if you can't get the speaker at the correct level, well even if you can tbh :eyebrows:

Up to recently, 25's were usually very cheap on ebay.

Funny how companies like Celestion and KEF that made some good units, did not always combine them in the best ways. People like IMF, Celef etc. often made a better job.

Ditton 66 would be great with HF1300 and HF2000 as supertweeter.
