yes you simply unplug them and the fill the top plinth with suitable filler, sand it down to a near mirror finish remove grease, dust, etc and then respray.

I can only repeat what's been said, yes it was easy :) I was guided through the electronics of it by Qwin on another thread. In an ideal world, I'd have liked to have changed the start/stop/33/45 push buttons for something more traditional and tactile, but I was wisely advised here that it's not as straightforward as I had hoped.

Ah, so Qwinny's work was your reference point? No worries. It's something that I also want to have done later on, as it tidies up the aesthetics of the T/T, as well as removing some unnecessary 'gubbins', which I guess can't do any harm :)

Marco, you have the 5g. I would leave it alone - you won't be able to match the finish of the 'g'. I could redo the surface of mine - a straight '5' but the 5g is a pretty fab look.

You can always unplug the cue lamp and the pitch fader (altough you'd need a jumper to do this) to see if it sonically makes any difference, if not, plug them back in again. Altough I must admit the Mk5 is too blingy for my liking.

Yup, if I was going to do it, I'd have a complete new paint job done - maybe a plain piano black... Although I hate bling, I quite like a 'sheen' on the finish of T/T plinths, which is one of the reasons why I chose the MK5G :)

Did that, dude, and couldn't hear any difference. The exercise would mainly be about removing stuff that wasn't necessary, and 'tidying up' the top plate.

Interesting that you find the MK5G blingy. I don't at all, and I hate bling! Perhaps it's because there's no shiny gold bits, which is what I hate the most!
