Clueless seller! I expect somebody equally dense may buy it.

I'm surprised the seller does not say the crossovers are also in vgc.
Anyway whoever buys this speaker also has the chance to buy some very tatty flight cases that the seller is flogging for a remarkable grand.
There's little information on these SMC AS40s but the few reviews I can find rate them highly... Must be worth much more than the current £1 price on them http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222644933606
Would have had them myself if I wasn't picking up some missions next week
thats too much for the work needed in my opinion.
Could make better boxes.
RE: SMC AS40s
The mids foam looks like it's had its day which is expected from these early speakers and the tweeter is widely available. Not that much work imo.
That's an awful lot of work. The NS-1000 boxes are thick dense ply and heavily braced. Or at least the sectioned boxes I saw Yamaha displaying were. Just getting the rebates right would be pretty demanding.
Stripping the poorly applied veneer off the cabinets of these ebay ones shouldn't be too hard. Then it's just a clean-up, make good and repaint. I could do it and so could other members.
That's not a simple cabinet: They're more than 30Kg a piece so the advice is very sound.
I accept your superior knowledge on the NS1000 boxes - I have no knowledge of their construction.
If you have a final settling on those speakers, the motivation to replicate and even improve may be worth it although a lot of work. I would perhaps consider if doing it making narrower fronted ones though.
My most recent own boxes have 53 wood braces in each and are 'rock dead.
I doubt a much narrower cabinet can be achieved, taking into acount the significant sidewall thickness.

Pioneer PL-12D turntable at a £229 asking price. Ridiculous! It's not even complete, forty quid would be more like it.

Remember listening to a pair of these years ago, sounded warm but moved a lot of air, was very impressed with them.
Decca cartridges supposedly rare! Lol

Looks like this Pioneer PL-12D is going to go silly. Bidding up to £112 already, with nearly three days to go. I used to buy these for about four quid at boot sales!

Everything is now rare and vintage!! I have purchased the odd TT for around the £40 mark during the last 4 yrs , but suddenly everything seems to be 'collectable' and I dont bother even looking any more . Even the old music centres /deck speaker combos ,ie Bush , Thorn , Garrard , things , are percieved as being valuable lol
The 12 D was a nice starter TT mind
Repro Tannoy GRF corner horn cabinets (empty).

Some lovely Tannoy Oxfords ,start price £40 :)

The tweeters seem a bit delicate on these, Audax I believe. I was given a pair of Oxfords with a blown tweeter, about 15 years ago. Bought several replacement units off ebay, none were any good. I do have some Audax soft dome tweeters that are Tannoy badged, may put these in.
