I've just found a Kenny G recording - 'Breathless'. Soprano and occasionally alto or tenor saxophone, this is a collection of 'library music': boring, inoffensive, anodyne elevator 'muzak'. The sort of background music that accompanies travel adverts, showing palm trees and sandy beaches etc. The modern day equivalent of "The Potters Wheel". Do people actually listen to this 'pap'?

Sonny Rollins : The Bridge. RCA records 1962
Following his famous 3 year sabbatical from recording whilst at his peak..
In 1959, feeling pressured by the unexpected swiftness of his rise to fame, Rollins took a three-year hiatus to focus on perfecting his craft. A resident of the Lower East Side of Manhattan with no private space to practice, he took his saxophone up to the Williamsburg Bridge to practice alone: "I would be up there 15 or 16 hours at a time spring, summer, fall and winter".

The Black Jazz Label is very good, very interesting..Pretty Damn Deep!
Gene Russell, Walter Bishop and Calvin Keys all produced some corkers on Black Jazz
Another label with a similar stance on radical left sided jazz, were Strata East.
