Yep - I have getting on for 2,000 CDs, and I dislike their visual presence. You're right, they do look untidy, even when filed neatly away.

The trouble with storing CDs in boxes or drawers & the like is that you have to either have already decided what you're looking for, or you've got to be prepared to occasionally do a lot of flicking through discs until you find something that takes your fancy. Often, I like to be able to go to the shelves and scan them till something starts winking at me!
Hmmm, books yes, I have quite a few music related books which you won't have seen Martin, but pride of place in my new home will be signed artwork, which I have been collecting for a number of years from all the gigs I go to. I have yet to frame and hang them, as living in a rental and constantly moving is not conducive to nest building (landlords are none to keen and holes in walls either). But people will be under no illusion when they walk into my home that I live and breath music, as they take in the album covers, photographs, concert artwork and no TV! so plenty of conversation pieces there for sure . . . but row after row of nasty cheap horrible plastic cases, which live on a shelf and never move collecting dust . . . not in my house :nono:
You'll have to pop up when I finally land somewhere in Suffolk ;)
(don't forget a CD is totally redundant to me once ripped and scanned, I only keep them to comply with copyright laws)
Anyway, each to their own, but I like clean lines
EDIT:
I do also accept that I'm a little odd, as I really dislike equipment racks with Hi-Fi gear on show too, all I need are the speakers, the rest can be hidden out of sight
Not here - they move! Anything in danger of gathering dust gets played. However, I do understand that mine is an active collection and yours is already ripped. Nice idea for album artwork, shame they're all so small :eyebrows: I wouldn't care too much about landlords and proper picture hangers have quite small pins.
Look forward to it, mate.
To my eternal shame all my records/CD's are stored in a fashion that resembles a Chimp's tea party:steam:, to the point where l cannot find some of my records l know l have.
