A 650 feet long suburban street set with seventeen semi-detached houses was constructed for this movie. Apparently, at the time at least, it was the largest set built in the UK for twenty-five years.

"News reel" footage shown in the cinemas of the RAF versus the Luftwaffe is actually from Battle of Britain (1969).

Bill's aunts are called "Faith, Hope and Charity", which Grandfather George claims were named by Grandma after character traits he didn't have. This is a reference to the Bible, specifically 1 Corinthians 13:13: "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity". Bill's mother is called Grace, also a theological virtue.

A very good film.

The film was among some of the most popular British films to be released in 1954, with critics praising the comedy and several of the cast members for their performances, including Sim's dual role as the headmistress Miss Millicent Fritton and her twin brother Clarence Fritton.^[2] The film was the first to be produced in the St. Trinian's film series.
