I have only limited experience in listening to different DACs fed from the same transport. I tried two external DACs, comparing both with each other, and to the internal DAC of the player. I could arrange matters so I could switch between all three instantly as well as spend time with any of the three.
There were clear, repeatable differences in performance, most noticably in the presentation of the sound field: width and depth. However the differences were not such that any one of them could (to my ears) said to be superior to the others; just different. So for the sake of minimising 'box count', I returned to using the internal DAC of the player.
And this is from your resident objectivist - one who eschews knee jerk mantras such that "analogue is better than digital", or "valve amps are better than solid-state amps", yet will openly admit to hearing differences if I do hear them.

I can't perceive any difference in the different filter options on either DAC and with any combination of pre or power amp, or even using the DACs direct into any of the power amps.
Soundstage is not something I pay much attention to though, I tend to listen for accurate tone and for detail. My room is not wide enough to allow for the sort of amazing 3D sound staging I have (very occasionally) heard elsewhere so it's just a compromise I have to live with.
The sound field does seem to exist completely independently from the speakers though, which is the important thing for me. Systems where the sound is obviously coming from the speakers are a fail in my book.
