Missed that.
Speaking from personal experience - baked potatoes, cheese on toast, beans on toast, spag bol, hot pot, omelettes. Hungry in between then you fill up on bread.
Booze - whatever is the highest alcohol content to price ratio. Used to be peach or pear wine, no idea these days. Cider probably.
The funeral of "Captain Tom" is today and still nobody mentions that he was killed by the stupidity or indifference of those around him. He was needlessly exposed to Covid 19. It is a horrible disease and those who die from it suffer enormously. He was unlikely to be around much longer due to age, but that was no way to go!
The skinny new weather guy Owain on BBC is a bit different, with his pale green suit and odd haircut. I wonder if he's friends with Rylan?
Nothing wrong with any of that (as unless the spag bol was out of a tin), it all involves some element of cooking it yourself) , and backs up what I said earlier about what's the cheapest and healthiest way to eat!
Although, I'm surprised you didn't include soup (or rice) in that - as a big pot of veg soup costs next to hee-haw to make and is very tasty and nutritious. Ditto pan-frying some chicken and rice.
So all the chavs then who feed themselves at McDonalds or Burger King obviously aren't struggling?;)
I'd argue that you've eaten (as outlined), when you were 'struggling', because you were educated enough to know that was the cheapest and best way to eat, whereas the dumb fucks in the same category just eat garbage 24/7, and often garbage which isn't that cheap!
What bearing does the alcohol content have on the cheapness of booze, and what's the motivation always to get drunk?Quote:

The last bit is a serious question, as I'm fundamentally not wired that way, so simply don't get the mentality.
Marco.
farmfoods... nothing much worse imo; not sure much of it should be called food?. iceland isnt much better tbh. you'll do better buying supermarket own labels.
Ah I see... I wouldn't know, as I've never been in these places and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
I just wish the government would introduce a scheme to educate the masses on how to eat cheaply, but also WELL. And it *can* be done. It would not only improve their physical health (and bank balance), but also mental health/well being, in terms of the satisfaction of having made the meals yourself and feeding yourself and family more healthily.
All that processed shite also fucks with your head, in terms of your body's reaction to the chemicals. It's just SO BAD on EVERY level!!
Marco.
i admit to not having used them for some years, but when i did, it was pretty horrible stuff. think the cardboard packaging looked better. For cheap and quick soup if youve nowt much fresh, then emergency tinned veg works just fine. carrots especially. just mash them and fire into soup. have some good stock cubes(never cheap out on stock) even tinned new potatoes are ok in soup. Kibbled onion is useful to have in stock etc.
its all irrellevent if you can get the fresh stuff, but if you cant you can still make decent soup for very little
I shall bear all this in mind next time I have chicken nuggets, spaghetti hoops and instant mash! ;)
If you can afford to eat at Burger King or Maccy D then you're not struggling.
Nothing to do with intelligence, if you don't have the money it just isn't an option you'd even consider. Take-away food of any kind that is, not just those two.
Booze - you have no money for hi-fi upgrades but nothing improves the sound of a system more than a drop of booze. No need to get drunk, just under the influence. A bottle of peach wine would last me three days and it was only about £1.50. Still an expense you had to account for though.
:lolsign:
didnt say i did, just that you can live off it...https://youtu.be/J6deUbS0bDo
Here's a tip (some may cringe :D). Deep fry tinned spuds! They come out really nicely :).
Why eat that shite though, Geoff, in the first place?
I don't believe for one second that you can't afford to eat better, and I certainly know you can cook, as I've seen examples on the food thread! Sorry, no offence, but the only real excuse I can see then is laziness... Yet you're retired and so should have plenty of time on your hands to knock up some decent nosh:scratch:
What's happened to all those lovely fresh salads you used to post pics of? :)
Marco.
Lol.... :eyebrows:
There'll defo be 'chicken bits' in - the question is, which 'bits'?:spew::bog:
I think I'd rather eat my own cock.
Marco.
Lol - in fairness Iceland is ok, although we don't shop there. I've seen enough of their stuff though to gauge it as decent. Have you given up using your local butcher, Roy, or is that deemed currently by the powers that be as a 'non-essential journey'?
We buy all our meat from the local butcher. There's simply no reason to go elsewhere, as it's handy, cheaper than the stuff in a supermarket, and FAR better quality - and we like supporting local businesses!
Marco.
Cool beans, mate. Didn't realise you had health problems - what puts you in the 'high risk category, then?
Marco.
Just back from fairly local butcher: venison and blueberry sausages, treacle cured bacon, dry cure bacon offcuts (for making a tomato sauce), oak smoked gammon (to be boiled in home brew cider before short roast with mustard and brown sugar glaze), going back on Tuesday as he is getting some ox tail in for me.
Something very satisfying about getting home from the butcher - primal hunter/gatherer needs?
Hahahaha... You're not far off, mate!:D
Cannoli are a southern Italian thing, but Antipasto, defo... My fav food though, even as a 5-year old, was my mum's homemade spinach and ricotta cannelloni with meat/ragu sauce - and yes washed down with a glass of Chianti [well, more water than Chianti, but there was a bit in!]:eyebrows:
Marco.
i like good cannelloni myself but hard to find ready made now, and im to clumsy
My mum's were legendary, mate. Made her own pasta from scratch, to start, then the filling and sauce... Just to die for. You'd have loved them!:)
But yeah, I wasn't a stranger to that stuff at that age - just a big difference in food cultures - and other favourites were veal escalopes, pan-fried in breadcrumbs, or veal chops, marinated in fresh rosemary and thyme from our garden, lemon sole with capers and butter [fish sourced from the village fishmonger], porcini mushroom risotto, chicken in white wine and tomatoes - homemade tiramisu, all sorts, mate.
I was eating well, long before I met Del. Just fortunate that her Welsh/German/Croatian heritage had a similar food culture [she'd also been brought up on home-cooked food, and indeed learned how to do things in the kitchen from when she was 4], and so I moved from living with one great cook to another!:D;)
Marco.
Yeah, WAY better and more rewarding than sitting clicking a mouse, innit?:)
The feel good factor alone, from getting out and about and meeting people you know, as we've built up a great rapport with our local butcher [Del takes him in a big bag of fresh herbs from our garden, which he either uses to decorate the meat on display or gives to his best customers], is wonderful, and the whole experience just more 'human' and real.
I've vowed that unless I'm disabled or ill to the extent that I can't shop physically, I'll never have stuff delivered. My dad's nearly 88 and still does all his own shopping, and wouldn't have it any other way, until he has no choice otherwise. I respect those who through ill health or disability can't shop physically, but have little time for all the lazy bastards who are plenty fit enough to go round a supermarket, but can't be arsed shifting their corpulent bottoms from the sofa!!:guns:
Marco.
saw a video of a woman taking off her thong to use as a face mask in a shop in SA
https://youtu.be/72ejVth8CKU
Not to be sniffed at!
Mmmmm, pine fresh.
Hahaha... And she was immediately reminded to swing by the fish counter and buy some kippers!
The arrows on the floor indicating the 'One-Way' social distancing system in force were subsequently further highlighted by the trail of dandruff she left behind....
Anyway, if Del had done that, hers would've doubled as a balaclava!!:D
Marco.
Are these carrots fresh? They smell like shit. And I'm sure these salmon fillets are a bit off
Nah, it's amazing the nasty niffs a scented pantyliner can hide!:eyebrows:
Like Rob says, "Pine Fresh"!
I'm getting 'notes of lavender', tinged with 'essence of prawn cocktail':D
Marco.
hopefully they were fresh on
Was anyone watching the rugby?
Fantastic match in the Six Nations, with Wales pumping the Englanders, and on course now for the Grand Slam!!!
YAAAAASSSSSSS.....
:yay::yay::yay: :champagne::champagne: :yay::yay::yay:
:sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep:
WELL DONE, LADS!!!
:clap::clap::clap:
Marco.
Yes, the ref' had a great game
Aye, the 'unbiased Frenchman' - a rather novel concept when the opposition is England!:D
Marco.
