Small they ain't. Despite that they look pretty cool to my eyes. Crazy price? Not in comparison to many high end speakers that they would trounce and certainly not at the price I'm asking, relatively speaking.
The price you're asking Ian, is fair, based on what they retail for.
And as you've pointed out, there are many much more expensive speakers in today's high-end market, but that doesn't stop the pricing being bonkers, IMO. That said, I'd rather have your JBLs than just about any other currently produced high-end speaker I can think of, as for me they tick the right boxes.

There's no 'plinth' with mine, as such. It's all integrated into the cabinets. TBH, when you lift the speakers, most of the weight comes from the HUMUNGOUS magnets on the 15" drive units! :eek:

I am curious about the exact weight of your Lockwoods as I'm mulling over Townshend Bars for mine.
I took "double the weight of my Lockwoods combined" to be 320kg :)
Lol, no. Each speaker combined (at 80kg), not a pair :)
In actuality, they may even be slightly less than that. The range, however, is definitely between 70-80kg each. The cabinets are *extremely* inert, though not super-heavy for their size.
Cabinet design operated on slightly different principles in those days, but which when done well, as in the case of the LMs, was very effective as a whole.

Shot by me. I really didn't like them. Much, much better speakers around. And I wanted to like them. Pretty brash sounding things at least with the ML electronics.
Some people will like them, of course, but I have no idea why.
Sounds probably like a mismatch for me, and being played far too loud... High-efficiency horn-loaded speakers like that need [top-notch] TOOBS! ;)

Not sure even I would go back that far now ;) The Meridian MCD-Pro was the first CD player I felt I could live with, the surprisingly good B&O CD-X, Mission DAD 7000R and Philips CD104 mk1 were the paths I took to get there back then (I didn't know the Marantz you've acquired Macca). Would be very interesting to reading your findings on it...
I had one of those really early 14 bit Philips CD thingies for a bit. Sounded surprisingly better than a cheap 16 bit Technics CDP I also had. Which genuinely sounded shit, when it really boils down to it. So not hard to beat.Quote:
