I think I would struggle a bit with that one. Most of my recommendations would be from 70's 80's and 90's. Much beyond that it becomes more about the CGI with its bangs and crashes (where would surround sound be if helicopters hadn't been invented), and less about the characters :(Quote:

The sweet spot for me started with stuff like "Midnight Cowboy", through the road movies like "Two Lane Black Top" and "Vanishing Point", then "The Exorcist" "The Omen", and thrillers like "Marathon Man" and "French Connection". Plenty more after that, but beyond Tarantino's films things thin out quite a bit.
I've lots of modern films. We'll a good few. But the older films were in many cases far superior.
Lots just want to be entertained by their equipment and not the actual film.

Agree. Plus all this dismal superhero shite they are making now. None of it is worth a second glance. Watched that 'Interstellar' not so long ago as so many people rated it. Just an overly long shaggy dog story. Crap story, crap dialogue, no memorable scenes or situations.Quote:

Think there were over 50k casualties from 175k participating. So between 1 in 3.5 chance.. Not good. Casualties were pretty even but it stopped Lees invasion and was the beginning of the end for the South
Great film that. The only thing that bugs me is that despite the massive attention to historical detail almost everywhere else, Little Round Top is portrayed as being forested when it wasn't.
Well some of it was. Only the Western slope was pretty much free of trees. But it wasn't as dense as big round top. But yes there were errors.

The Korean version of the American series. Well its very different, while retaining elements of the US show. I enjoyed some of it, but not as much as the US show. I will though stick with it and see how it develops.

Seen the departed; might even have somewhere, I cant remember. watched twice, but it was only a 3/5 film for me. a bit slow.
as for carry ons, I grew up on them and Laurel and Hardy so Im gonna be fond of them.
Have you seen the new laurel and Hardy film? Steve Coogan got the plaudits for Stan but I thought the actor who played Oliver was just as good if not the reason it worked so well.
Imagine a current a lister having to do something similar just to set themselves up for their retirement. Shows who made the money back then and it wasn't the film stars or at least not the ones who worked for the production company they did.

The Alamo 2004.. you see this is why i mostly watch older films... they did it better as a film.
A great cast and lots of cash and detail make this a dreary, paint drying exercise. Dont get me wrong it has its moments but thats what they are.
Think it was also one of the great movie flops, and one can see why.... historical detail and reality are oft very boring.

Good story this one with Barry Norman's dad directing. Laurence Harvey was a good actor but he plays Bamforth a bit too camp which ruins it a bit.
Bought this a few years ago as I had fond memories of this film but never got round to watching it - inspired by Grant, and an evening with the TV to myself...

Sid's girl-chasing persona was fully reinstated for subsequent films.
