It was either Sly Stallone or Arnie who discovered the Panerai brand in Italy & bought one for all their Hollywood mates that started the fashion for big watches apparently? (there was a yt video about it but I can't find it just now)
The Gigandet is what I think of these days as being fairly standard size.
I’m guessing the Speedbird is 38 mm, the strap is 18mm
