Hearing all this I am more likely not to mess around ...it works so i will just leave it that way I think rather than try other options like music box etc.
was listening today b4 i put the tt on and it is pretty impressive to my old ears.

I don't think you have said to the forum how you have your Pi connected to your system, cable wise and Volumio settings wise. Perhaps that might provoke some suggestions from others using Volumio for you to try / look at.
I'm running Moode and PI-DAC+ myself but plenty use Volumio and I have used it myself via USB to an external DAC on a Pi B.
Give it a go?
OK - so still disappointed. I set output to 2v rather 1v, added the additional .8db of gain and tried pushing main output to max. I had back main output back down, sounded like I was overloading the buffer stage of the DAC+. Results a little better, but still poor compared to CD.
So I installed EAC and did a WAV based rip to try. Better and I could live with it...but I then put the CD I just ripped into the Naim and simply laughed at the difference.
I compare Pi2 based audio out via TV tonight - if it is not significantly worse that the DAC+ output, I'll put the DAC+ in classifieds soon :)

This may or may not help but this how I setup Moode and the RPi/IQaudio DAC + combo. My music is on a NAS and the RPi is wired.
Go to System Menu
- set time zone
- set I2S Audio device to IQAudio DAC+
- set ALSA vol to 100%
- set Airplay on
Reboot
Go to MPD menu
Audio output should be: 'I2S Audio Device'
Disable Volume ( I use a passive Pre)
Resample choice 16 bit / 176.4 Khz
SOX: High Quality
Hit Apply, go to sources menu
Click New NAS
give it a name
Select SMB/CIFS
enter IP address (no leading or trailing slashes / or \ )
enter remote directory (this maybe case sensitive so watch what you put in here)
User Name for me is Guest with a capital G
no password, leave blank
Click Save
Been through all this many times with different variations of caps, slashes/no slashes, admin/password and Guest access ... no luck. As I say it works fine with exactly the same settings on Rune Audio. I'm using a Digi+ board rather than a DAC board, but that's an easy menu option. Always falls over at the same point. Have spent literally hours trying different things here. Have concluded it must be a bug.
I did make a post on the Volumio site but I'm not alone in having this issue and it hasn't been addressed.

That's such a pain in the arse, Tom. It's worked faultlessly for me since day 1....
I wonder what issues could be causing the problems others and you are having, compared with many folks like me who were up and running in no time at all?
