I also had a pair of 104/AB's with original spare 104 cross overs,so had experience of both [if you know what i mean] Anyway, i agree, they were great speakers, With a very natural bass characteristic that seems to be lacking with most other types of speakers.The pair i had were mint and to be honest i wish i still had them to compare with what i have had since,hey ho.:(

If it were possible, it would be an interesting exercise for everyone to return to the gear they used to use (the good stuff, not the shite), to see if what they were using now was genuinely better in all aspects, and indeed if real progress, sonically, had been made in their systems, or not.....
In your case, I don't doubt that, but for some others, they might get a shock, especially as we're conditioned by the hi-fi media to automatically believe that the 'latest and greatest' new equipment is ALWAYS best, when in my experience that's far from being the case! :rolleyes:
I suspect that some people, particularly those susceptible to marketing hype, may find that they've gone more backwards than forwards!
In terms of speakers, and the KEFs you mention, it would also be a useful (and likely sobering exercise) to compare them with modern speakers of a similar size and internal volume, and hear just how differently speakers in general are voiced these days, and identify what sort of 'shift', in a musical presentation sense, has taken place with loudspeakers in the last, say, 30 years.
For that reason alone, I think one should always have a pair of quality vintage speakers as a reference, which of course you have, with your excellent SP1s :cool:

I'd deffo go for the Tannoy 'T185: Dorsets', 'T225: Mayfair', i'm not a fan of Tannoy with exception to these two models.Quote:

Shame twelvebears isn’t able to go with his NADM2 and Andre isn’t going either. Might have been worth going just to see if Andre is actually as barking as he comes across on the forums :lolsign:
Also haven’t heard the 66’s which I am interested in hearing.
Oh well, next time maybe. Something nearer the South West so it’s a practical proposition to go for the day rather than having to stay away would help.
Shame you aren't going John, you could have helped me swap over my 66s with Marcos when he wasn't looking :D
