Yes, of course. But my earlier post (#117), which you quoted, wasn't about 'disliking' anything, or 'good' or' bad'. No-one here (as far as I know) was saying that they disliked the sound of a standard Technics SL-1200; merely that, as Dimitri says, it 'sounded perfectly well'.

People who've modified and upgraded this turntable, however, know from experience that its performance can be significantly improved from stock, hence the reference to "our discerning standards". "Sounds perfectly well", for us, is not good enough.

Joe, your criteria for good and bad, are they presentational or communicative?

I agree that presentational issues can get in the way of musical communication (see SBL comments above) but good/bad absolutes are utterly meaningless. If hi-fi can get both the communication and presentational aspects right there is usually consensus amongst subjectivists. Where there are imperfections with either you choose your compromises.

One thing I've never understood though is why if people wish to leave they feel the need to announce it... What purpose does that serve? :scratch:

If people wish to leave then they can do so with the minimum amount of fuss. Announcing it serves no purpose unless wishing to be perceived as some sort of martyr or drama queen. I'm afraid that I have little time for such petulance.

The questions are very clear and concise so as to ensure the minimum amount of misinterpretation.

One response indicates the concept exists independently of Linn/Naim, one associates with these brands in a negative sense and the third with the same brands in a positive sense.

The possible responses that align Linn/Naim with the FE concept outnumber the one that doesn't by two to one.

Those votes in the first option outnumber those in the second and third options combined so far.

The results speak for themselves and surprise even me.

The majority do not regard Linn/Naim to be exclusively associated with the FE. That's a result - you can't win 'em all!

I will explain :

- We've needed more than 10 pages to make the questions (and words) clear...
- The poll doesn't explicitely ask members to identify himself/herself to an idea : it merely suggests three possible options to how Flat Earth is percieved.
- There's only one possible option if you don't want to be associated directly with Linn or Naim : was this the purpose ? i don't think so.
- As there's only one option, then can we consider that people who "don't associate the term negatively with hi-fi made by Linn or Naim " and people who think "others than Linn or Naim can be flat Earth" are all Flat-Earthers ? I doubt. ;)
