We have been to Tuscany, and visited Lucca a few years ago. Not been to Barga, but would like to see the Gnome Sanctuary, just to make sure they are all wearing kilts!

Actually, it's not a bad suggestion: picturesque scenery and architecture, plenty of good food, wine and lager - along with our very own fluent Italian guide. :)

Yes, Lucca'a a cracking place, been there loads of times.

Fly to Pisa and hire a car. Barga's about an hour and a half away, or we could go in my new camper van:)
