During the most part of the early to mid 20th century, Australia's government policy was that mixed race Aboriginal children would be better off being brought up as white and so forcefully removed them from their homes to be trained as domestic servants. This film follows the true story of 3 such children; cousins Molly, Gracie and Daisy, who in 1931 found themselves being taken from their parents, sent to an institution and forced to forget their family and culture. However, Molly leads her 2 cousins in a daring escape across 1,500 miles of outback with no water and only the fence erected across the country to stop the epidemic of rabbits as a guide. Kenneth Branagh plays the government official charged with the return of the girls and the story is based on the book by Doris Pilkington, the neice of Daisy.

Just watching Jesse Stone 'Night Passage' with Tom Selleck once again. Beautifully made movie, quite dark and atmospheric with some crafty plot twists. Great stuff!

Not my favourite Bond by a long way although until Skyfall it was the highest grossing Bond film ever (adjusted for inflation). Does have some great moments, especially the fight scene in the teaser before the opening credits. This was back when Bond didn't have martial arts skills to rival Bruce Lee so he had to work hard if he wanted to kill a man with his bare hands. Much more realistic.
One thing I always find funny is the sequence in the health spa where the baddie catches Bond strapped to the stretching machine and turns it up full to try to kill him. Why would a health spa have a stretching machine that can be set to 'kill' speed? There's even a red 'danger zone' on the dial!
They do the same in Moonraker when he is in the G force machine. Why would it have a setting that is so fast that it would kill the man being tested?
On the other hand it's nonsense like this that is one of the reasons I love Bond films.

Watched that the other week. It's entertaining enough.
Also watched a recent one with Arnie where he is the sheriff in a small town, think it was called Last Stand or something similar. Not a bad film. He's not done many bad ones really. Except True Lies and Terminator 2. They sucked.

Yes, I have that DVD. I love the depiction of Heaven as a massive civil service-like administration. The set design in 'Black Narcissus' was equally imaginative.
Powell and Pressburger were, IMO, ahead of their time, but Powell's reputation took a massive hit with the release of 'Peeping Tom' in 1960, which was deemed so offensive by the critics of the day, it effectively ended Powell's directing career.
(And since this is an audio forum, I ought to add that it is the only film I know of in which Wright and Weaire tape decks and Quad 57 electrostatic speakers make a fleeting appearance.)
I'm sure I've seen that, but it would have been many years ago. Was it shot partly in colour and partly in b&w? Something about deciding whether he should be dead or go back to earth?

I like movies that some might find disturbing. A film does not have to be 'fun' or crammed with slam bang action and effects. Another dark and odd movie that left its mark with me was 'Wise Blood', a masterpiece in my opinion!Quote:

I used to be a big Red Dwarf fan; loved it, though I started to loose interest when the crew were imprisoned. Not sure which series that was, but afterwards it improved and the final episode had the perfect denouement and provided a neat ending. :)Quote:
