Watched 'Kramer Vs Kramer' last week, there's one for starters. That really needs a killing spree before the opening credits and one in the middle too. Probably one of the most boring films I've ever seen.

Burt Lancaster had met Ossie Davis on the historic, Martin Luther King "Civil Rights March on Washington" on Aug. 28, 1963. This chance meeting, led to the talented Davis, being cast as "Joseph Winfield Lee" the runaway slave, who uses his clever, resourceful ways to manipulate fur trapper, "Joe Bass", Lancaster, in the film. Lancaster also stated, that first time screenwriter, William W. Norton submitted such a unique, clever script, that he just had to do the film.
Burt Lancaster and Shelley Winters reputedly had a two-year affair, earier in the mid-'50s. Shelley was pretty cute in her day.

During the filming of the scene where Maria attempts to escape through a canyon wired with dynamite, Claudia Cardinale's stunt double was badly injured during the explosion. Cardinale, who had never ridden a horse before, performed the stunt herself for the final cut, and escaped uninjured.
Despite the principal male actors being in their 50's (except for Lee Marvin, who was only 42), all of them insisted on performing their own stunts. However, only Woody Strode performed all of his stunts as there were no black stuntmen who came close to his height and stature. Burt Lancaster, who was 52 at the time, did most of his own stunts, including being hung upside down in Coyote Pass and running across the top of the moving train car. The studio balked, however, at Lancaster climbing the side of the cliff in the pass to plant the dynamite and a stuntman was substituted. Even though Palance was as tall as Strode, he had to use a stunt double for the scenes where he was wounded and fell off his horse, because falling the wrong way off a horse could lead to serious injuries.

George Sherman produced this film, and Michael Curtiz directed it. During much of the shooting, Curtiz was seriously ill (he died of cancer shortly after the film's release). On the days when Curtiz was too ill to work, John Wayne took over direction, and when it was completed, he told the studio that he did not want credit as co-director, and insisted that Curtiz's name alone appear as director. Wayne performed the same function in 1971 on Big Jake (1971), which was directed by Sherman., who took ill during production. Wayne directed the film on the days when Sherman couldn't and also insisted that he not receive co-director credit.
On the first day of filming, John Wayne reprimanded third assistant director Tom Mankiewicz for wearing a John F. Kennedy button. He told him, "I'd take that button off if I were you. We don't advertise socialists on my set." Wayne had campaigned for Richard Nixon in the 1960 U.S. Presidential election, and blamed Kennedy for losing the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Despite privately remaining unimpressed by this movie, Dame Agatha Christie dedicated her 1962 book "The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side" to Dame Margaret Rutherford, "in admiration".
Richard Briers received twenty-five pounds sterling for his scene as "Mrs. Binster", shot on the final day of filming.
This movie, the first in series with Rutherford, was a success at the box-office, earning MGM a profit of $342,000 ($3.29M in 2022) according to studio records.
