Probably a better move than my original plan, which was to place an aerosol can of wasp killer next to the nest then shoot the can from a distance with my air rifle. Anita thinks that idea was stupid anyway. I think her idea of going up to the nest and giving it death with nest destroyer is even more stupid though - it's bound to upset them, they can fly at 25mph, and I read online that they will chase you for up to half a mile. Also studies have found that they remember faces too, so she could be on their shit list for days.
And it will only get worse once they start eating rotting fruit, you can't reason with a pissed wasp.

Unlikely, they mostly kick the bucket by October. Though it is possible that they pass on the Tale of Macca's Jar to their grubs at bedtime to keep the legend going. What is the ecological purpose of wasps? They don't pollinate like bees, and what is worse they don't die after stinging you.
I think they do still pollinate, just not the same way. Someone once bought me a book called “Does Anything Eat Wasps?” and I think the answer was “yes” but I don’t remember what it was!
I destroyed a wasps nest in a small plastic 'greenhouse' with some killer spray, but a couple of the buggers got me.
One on the face but I was very quick to swat them away so it wasn't that bad.
